Last night here felt really fresh. There was a breeze and a lack of humidity.

incidentally Brian I often get pop-ups here saying “ad blocker detected” but I don’t have any ad blocker enabled, as far as I know. I certainly still see the ads. I will get round to paying for premium at some point!

30.7C at Larkhill so that's 21 days reaching 30C this year, taking us into equal fourth place with 2006. The only three years with more are:

1976: 24 days

2018: 28 days

1995: 34 days

At the moment the models suggest we will overtake 1976 effortlessly, and potentially tie 2018 by the end of this spell (assuming a run of 30C up to next Friday).

29c here with 47%RH in the garden, which makes it a bit more humid today than yesterday, no clouds visible right now but the sky has a slightly milky tint. If the forecast is correct, today should be the last 30c+ for at least a week, I hope. I like some heat but this has been ridiculous and really unbearable at times.

Never mind next Friday, 6Z GFS looks like keeping the 30C run going and going. Would smash the 1976 18-day record , crazy stuff.

Looks like the chances of our first heatwave in four years have been scuppered yet again by the North Sea 😩

Swanston was 22.8 earlier then the NE wind arrived, humidity and temperature dropped, we are down to 21.7 C now

This leaves the temperature only needing to rise by up to another 2.3°C between now and 09:00 UTC tomorrow morning for an official heatwave to be recorded there.

Even at the botanic gardens which would be expected to be cooling down even more due to its closer proximity to the sea, the temperature is still holding up at 21.1°C as I write.

I was out and about a short while ago though, and there is a notable breeze from off the North Sea now which can feel fairly cool when you're exposed to that in any way. However, I still found it quite hot in the sunshine, especially when you're sheltered from that breeze (which probably explains why the temperatures are still holding up really well just now despite that breeze). Nevertheless, I will be surprised if the temperatures actually rise any higher today than what they are just now, so I would probably say that the Met Office were almost spot on with their predicted maximum of around 23°C for today.

We've been doing the temperature bouncy castle for the last hour or so, 32.7 just after 12pm, down to 31.4c briefly, up and down again but finally flying again. 33.3c currently on my usually pretty reliable VP2 compared to local stations. 32s and a 33c on the MO obs map for 1pm

Edit - still bouncing, back down to 32.4c again

33.9C matches the date record from 1921.

Edit: 4pm readings have 34.7 at Coton in the Elms and 34.6C at Ross-on-Wye. Could be a sixth 35C which would also be an outright record.

That, combined with the numerous ways it's beaten 1976 in terms of high temperatures, if not outright duration (yet), will hopefully put an end to the 76-ers and their "it's just summer, we've had it all before" rhetoric.

So for those who are keeping track, that's now:

21 days over 30C (fourth equal)

9 days over 34C (a record)

6 days over 35C (a record)

14 date records (no idea if that's a record in itself!)
