Can see the big thunderstorms to the NW but here it's still sunny, right on the edge of the sun/cloud.. Temp peaked at 33.1c about 30 mins ago, so warmest of the spell, dropped back now to 32.4c with a breeze picking up.

We were in the Red zone Wednesday and Thursday 34c 33c ish but not in today when its 36c here. Theres no explaining that.

Storms that bubbled up skirted past us with constant rumbles but just missed us. I can feel the effect of those storms pushing in though. Suddenly a breeze and a noticable drop in temperature. 27C has never felt so good

Several hours now here above 35 - it's still 35.2 and of course the temperature's refusing to drop (to misquote another poster on the cc thread!)

Can't wait for this to be over TBH, it's going to be hell tonight trying to sleep... (fun fact: portable aircons conk out when it gets too hot, mine officially does it at 32 but in practice can go a bit higher...)

Cloud cleared and quickly shot up to 36C, 0.1 C below my June record set on Wednesday. CLoud back now so that could be it for June records here.

37.1 equals the first extreme heat event that I can remember clearly, August 3 1990. I was on a scout camp in Devon and we abandoned our planned hike across Dartmoor and went swimming in the river to try to keep cool instead. I remember the papers splashing "99F" across the front pages....

Strong winds and still notice the humidity outside drop sharply to 22% from 70% this morning so much welcome relief  Max outside was 36.6 and min 22.9C, 25.1C to 44.7C in the conservatory and living room 36.5C and 27C last night.

Once again for the over 20C 850s thanks for visiting us and see you soon again.

Hah, I missed that one as I was on holiday in Yugoslavia - a run-down place called Umag where everyone seemed utterly miserable. (As a 10-year old I wondered why, of course Yugoslavia broke up not long after). My nan had saved the Sun to show me (as she knew I liked the weather) and yes, I remember that 99F too! I was damned glad I missed it TBH, but hey... at least we had our customary foot or more of snow the following winter! Bet that doesn't happen this winter...

Back to the here and now, a brief spike to 35.8, the hottest so far. Funny to think that's warmer than anywhere in the UK in June 1976!

Still rising in E Anglia it seems, 38C in Norwich - not sure if that will reflect anywhere official.

37.3 now in Santon Downham from the BBC. 99.1F.. 100 still just out of reach.

It shouldn't matter if the night following was cool if it's nigh on 38c and 100f that's an auto red surely, that will impact health and wellbeing that day, it's the UK after all.
