I was abroad in Kenya on safari during this period. I remember reading about it in the newspaper and on CNN in the hotel room when we returned to Nairobi.  

It turned out to be an interesting month. Saddam Hussain invaded Kuwait as well

Humidity is stinky to.

I am in Braunton, N.Devon. It is 03:30am outside. Still 26.2c outside . Crazy! Never remember a night time minimum so hot ever!? What is strange is how London is actually much cooler at 20c. 

Tomorrow still looks hellishly hot down here, with a "tropical night" leading into it too. I'd not be surprised to see a small red warning issued later this morning for East Anglia and Kent.

I don't understand why they can't just run a query which says "Find the max temp for (day) in (region)" and use that as the value instead...

Edit: Just seen it was 22.7C in Ventnoor in 1976. Surely that’s Gone.

It's 19.4, dew 18.2, having risen slowly from the overnight low of 19.1 - the warmest night of the current spell here. 

Less good news for record hunters though as the models seem to have firmed up on a potential thunderstorm limiting the highs today and especially tomorrow. Looking like we might scrape a few tenths higher than yesterday but the 38s look very unlikely. 

Plymouth 23.0C is the highest I can see on the 7am summaries but there may be some higher ones on the minor stations. 

iPhone weather app and the radar showing drizzle here currently. The reality is unbroken sunshine and not a cloud in the sky 

UKV 03z seems quite bullish on Maxes for the next three days.

Thu: 38C

Fri: 37C

Sat: 33C

I still have a nagging feeling that tomorrow will see the highest temperatures of the whole spell, but we'll see how high things pop today down in the south and SW. 

The UKV this morning has some 38s in the vicinity of Brogdale tomorrow and some more in Suffolk. It's a shame Brogdale seems to be no longer reporting, as that would doubtless be a high reading!

Its so sad we lost that station. I also cant describe my frustration that we also have St James Park offline. It really is an example of broken Britain that a weather station can be vandalised., but that's for another thread. 

As you say UKV looking bullish, I think a lot of uncertainty with the storms. But from the guidance I have seen online these will be more Central / SW so lets see. Would be good to see another record (I know you'll be suffering Darren) but the games the game.

Looking at the satellite on Zoom Earth there is a big storm cloud over Brittany that is moving north. Not sure if that is going to hold together and scupper today’s heat in the southwest. It’s moving pretty fast. 

It's more than a shame.  IMO the UK reporting network needs improving. How often do we read, station X is currently out of order or station Y no longer exists etc.  Now it may very well be the case in other countries too. Nonetheless, you'd think something as important as this would be treated as the highest priority.
