Met office website seems to have crashed this evening. Incredible to have the red warning extended up to and over the South coast into the channel. Usually 5+ miles north of the actual coastline it’s a good 4-5 degrees cooler. Not this time!

Very, very unusual for beach towns.

The long range ECM has another potential heat dome for second week of July, though it may be gone in the morning

August 2/3/4 1990 had 36.6, 37.1, 36.1 - surely the hottest three day period ever?

The 4 AM chart from Weatherobs shows just how humid and sticky it is down in the south, and especially the southwest. There are several 25s, and widely in the low 20s.

Tomorrow still looks hellishly hot down here, with a "tropical night" leading into it too. I'd not be surprised to see a small red warning issued later this morning for East Anglia and Kent.

Whoever's written the MetO text forecasts this morning hasn't done a very good job! The one for the SE has a high of 36C tomorrow, for example, whereas the MetO raw shows 37C here. In the SW it's even worse, with the text forecast going for a max of 32C today, while the automated for Bristol, for example, is showing 38C.

I don't understand why they can't just run a query which says "Find the max temp for (day) in (region)" and use that as the value instead...

Does anyone know what the overnight minimum for June is? Some high overnight temperatures.

Edit: Just seen it was 22.7C in Ventnoor in 1976. Surely that’s Gone.

Sunny with a NE'ly breeze this morning. The breeze is meant to persist all day with the MetO raw showing 22 or 23 from 9 AM today all the way to 5 AM tomorrow... with just one hour of 24 to spoil things. It'll be a good opportunity to cool the house down in preparation for tomorrow. That same wind will lead to another day of exceptionally high temperatures along the south coast, and they'll be off to an early start considering the warmth last night.

It's 19.4, dew 18.2, having risen slowly from the overnight low of 19.1 - the warmest night of the current spell here.
