Seems unusual to do this. Monday doesn't look that hot 32c maybe, Tuesday does look very hot though.

I think the extreme humidity is also a factor this time, along with the higher temps

GFS only has 31C on Monday and 34 on Tuesday, and actually has Wednesday warmer. Generally the GFS seems to be keeping temperatures much lower towards the end of next week despite very high 850s - quite a strong easterly flow and lots of cloud resulting in highs of 27-28C despite 850s of 18-20C.

But memory is a funny thing too. Those who were young adults in 1976 remember it as unrelenting heat and clear skies every day for months until they appointed a minister of drought. The cooler and cloudier interludes are forgotten. That's probably how I'd remember 1995, except being a weather buff I kept a close eye on every small variation.

Today looks somewhat less warm than it did a few days ago - it was looking like a low 30s day but likely to max out at 29-30 I think.

And talking of 30C... P1 of the 6Z GEFS has a fairly large patch of 30C air at 850mb just across the Channel in northern France. I don't think I have ever seen that so far north.

Clear blue sky, light winds and temperature already around 24C

Dew point 17C

I'd say that the heatwave has begun.

Starting Sunday this South Coast City is looking at 4 consecutive days of at least 30C which is noteworthy.. top forecasted temperature is so far only 32C but with night temps remaining in low 20'S it's going to hit hard.

Does anybody think the heat will move northwards? I'll get 2 days of warmth in Notts tomorrow and Sunday, 25-27 C?

After that I'm heading north to Edinburgh, be good to see some sunshine and 25 C up there next week. Heavy rain again today.

Not why the app show only 27 on Monday and 29 Tuesday and London 30 and 32? No models show this very lower maxes as most go for mid to near high 30 in London and low to mid 30s here.

Does anybody know if the 850 temperatures represent approximately 1500m of altitude or 1500m above the ground? It makes a big difference- if it's the former, then it's no wonder 25+ plumes originate in Spain, where the northern Meseta has an average altitude over a large area of about half of this, so the 1500m temperatures would only be about 750m up.

Similarly that P1 heat core starts in central France where there is ample ground above 1000m then shifts north and intensifies.
