A breeze has picked up the last half hour here. It's beautiful.

The closest PWS to me is showing 36C. 26% humidity. It’s typically pretty accurate if not a little conservative. Yesterday it maxed at 33. It’s not far from London City airport so I’m surprised LCY hasn’t recorded something higher than the 34C so far.

Heathrow's at 34.5 (via Ogimet) and on NW they say Kew's hit 35.0!

Today is now the hottest day in May on record with Heathrow and Kew Gardens provisionally reaching 35.0°C Until yesterday the highest temperature in May was 32.8°C, but we've now exceeded that record on consecutive days by a full two degrees Celsius 🌡️ pic.twitter.com/s4ichw1fZU— Met Office (@metoffice) May 26, 2026

Probably not quite enough to beat the June record which I believe is 35.6C which would be insane. But this heat is remarkable enough without that. 2 consectutive days of 30C+ in NW England. 30 years ago that would be considered exceptional in any month. Now we're getting it in May.

31 C in Sheffield. Thunderstorm now breaking out. Feels very humid. Dry heat feels much more pleasant.

It would be interesting to hear what thunder sounds like again. And what a good light show looks like (without the damaging hail). The times when they trundled across from France at dusk are long gone it seems nowadays. Here at least. The heat today is notable 34.2C.

Looks like Kew has the provisional hot spot for today at 35.1C. Astonishing and unbelievable.

Yeh the anomaly is what makes this as impressive and goes to show that we could quite easily reach 40 again a lot sooner than we imagined. Also, kudos to UKV which on the whole picked up this high temperatures well.
Big heat in May

I hope so, but the dealt cards show otherwise.

There's a report from the Met Office from last year that says that 45C could be possible in today's climate, not just in the future. I think it appeared in their Weather publication.
That is scary.
