Temperature here in Edinburgh now down to around 13°C under clear skies. That is much milder than the previous night but cooler than the official Met Office forecast and therefore, not warm enough for any minimum temperature records here.

The north of Edinburgh, usually always missing out on snow events which occur not just within the rest of Scotland or the UK, but also within the rest of Edinburgh.

I find it a bit odd that this literally unprecedented weather event drops down the news story rankings to some old sow pretending she didn’t know her ex husband was stealing money

Up at just after 4, as usual, and I checked the temperature - remember yesterday the MetO said about it being "relatively mild", much to my disdain? They changed their wording in the afternoon to say, using a much better term,

"This Evening and Tonight:

A fine end to the day, with plenty of warm sunshine. Staying dry with prolonged clear skies overnight. Winds will be light and variable. A warm night for many. Minimum temperature 18 °C."

Oddly enough it didn't seem particularly hard to sleep, and sure enough it's "only" 13.9 outside right now! Quite a fail for their modelling, and I note yesterday's high was 26.4 rather than the 32 their raw output had. (This follows on from Sunday, which ended up as 21.8 rather than the 25/6/7 that the raw showed at various times during Sunday itself). It now has 32 for today (down from a predicted 34 the past couple of days) and that's still with an onshore breeze from a 14C sea - I would expect maybe 28 or 29 at a push, but we'll see. Friday is now showing 31, and as that's with SW'lies - always a warm direction due to the foehn effect from the Downs - I can imagine that will actually happen!

Incidentally looking at xc there are a number of places still in the 20s, notably 23s at Waddington and Barkston Heath "up north". Astonishing for May, frankly...

Desperate for some exercise I went for a walk at 05.15 this morning. Temperature was 12C. Only 2 cars about.

Darren - we are not far from Waddington, across the Witham valley.

Looks like we're on the way up again now - it bottomed out at 13.4 here and is now 13.9, the sun appearing over the trees. Waddington's still reporting 23C, but Barkston Heath briefly dropped to 22C. I strongly suspect the news will be that we've seen our first 20C+ minima in May, a "tropical night" as the MetO calls it.

A thoroughly remarkable spell, and of course it's not over yet!

I’ve noticed the Met have done a ninja update and we now have another two days of 30C on Thursday and Friday. Tbf Friday was looking likely.

Its 27C here. 26C at...lands end at...8.50 AM!

Frankly this is scary. If it keeps warming like this SW England will see 32-35C today. People and wildlife aren't prepared for that, I fear for both today. Hell, I'm not prepared for it and I've been worrying about climate change for four decades.

Wake up people we HAVE TO change our ways.

It's no coincidence that farmers are doing well up there. Down here? It's difficult to grow grass, barely, wheat, potatoes, tend stock in 30C plus...I'm not sure what I'd do were I one of them to be honest.

29C here, in May , on Dartmoor. Seriously?

30 C in Sheffield now. Convective clouds (Cu med & Ac flo) now appearing; looking increasingly likely for thundery showers to break out by evening. Temps still remarkable for this time of the year.
