...and several planning inquiries, followed by an appeal via the planning inspector and then several high court challenges! Typical that they should dawdle so much on fixing it, isn't it?

It's looking like a remarkable spell on the way, GFS has continued to move towards UKV/MetO and now has several days of 27 here, the Saturday rain which it's been consistently showing has been downgraded and, I suspect, the MetO forecast of full sunshine will be the one that "wins".

I'm still very puzzled as to why the models are showing such heat here considering the onshore breeze that's forecast to pick up over the weekend, the MetO for example having 31C with 17mph easterlies (from a sea which is still only 13C).

The only other thing worth commenting on is just how unremarkable people seem to find such heat these days. We will perhaps see a couple of date records fall, an exceptional spell (just 12C above average here!), yet people seem to just take it for granted.

Same with me. It's like rings in a tree. You can tell a person's age from the "magic number" as you call it.

Yes I remember that well, 25c + had the orange symbol, I remember 30c being forecast in the 80s as a kid. If my memory serves me correct I think 2005 I remember locally here in Kent we had a hair dryer day at the very end of May, where temperatures were 31-32c for one day with quite a strong hot wind. This coming spell will last much longer though but I doubt as hot locally.

Lovely day here today ,gonna hit about 24-25 , nice breeze. Shame it is going to get hotter as this is warm enough without being too warm for lengthy outside work.

Arpege may have a 37C on the full grid. 36C on the thinned grid.

27.3 was the high here yesterday, in quite gusty southerlies. The MetO raw has 30 here today under initially SE'lies, but later this afternoon under NE'lies - I could imagine 30 as long as the wind stays south of east, but I still can't see how we could reach or sustain 30 under a sea breeze.

Next week looks interesting in terms of temperature variety here: Monday and Tuesday have 30 and 31 respectively, again under NE'lies, then just 19 on Wednesday - which is average - under slightly stronger NE'lies, before going back to 25 the day after.

We'll see whether those very high temperatures are reached, if they are it's a win for the MetO raw. GFS has 25 and 26 on Sunday and Monday and that's more what I'd expect with a sea breeze.

Interesting thread and it looks like the South and Midlands are going to see some exceptional Spring heat, possibly record breaking?

As for Northern England and Scotland, nothing too dramatic. Low 20's for most with more cloud but the warmth may spread further north for Tuesday and Wednesday? I'll be keeping an eye on the temperature reports in here

The first 30c of the year looks possible today - the South Coast and Kent being the favoured spots. One for Faversham I suspect.

I see that the Met Office are going for a possible maximum temperature of around 27°C here in Edinburgh by next Thursday and as long as the wind continues to come from a SSW direction without any influence from the North Sea, that could easily end up happening with the highest temperatures in such a set-up probably being recorded at the botanic gardens in such a scenario.

If there is a North Sea influence though, that is probably unlikely to happen and in that scenario, the botanic gardens would probably see the coolest temperatures in Edinburgh due to its relatively close proximity to the coast.

At the moment, the models are then suggesting that it may well cool down again and become more unsettled just in time for the start of the meteorological summer which would just be like the thing. However, that is all in the extended range and given that warm, dry and sunny weather at this time of the year appears to be the norm now, I would be very surprised if that actually came off.

That said, there has been numerous years in the past in which we have had a similarly high temperature at around this time of year only for that to then be the highest temperature of the entire year in the end. Quite frankly, I would much rather be getting that in the actual summer itself rather than right now when we're technically still in spring but I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if that ended up happening.

A couple of 28s as of 1pm (Southend and London City Airport) and a whole pile of 27s.

Looks like 30c is still possible somewhere today.
