Yes very light snow just started here John. Surprised to see the snow showers surviving this far south

Sometimes in any showery air mass, you can get a small disturbance known as a trough of low pressure which forms within that air mass and results in those showers ganging up to either become more frequent, or even to produce a longer spell of precipitation (which might be in the form of rain, sleet or snow depending on the temperature of that air mass).
Back in the Michael Fish era, that would have been shown just as a black curved line on the chart which is roughly perpendicular to the isobars but these days, that is more likely to be shown as a small cold front or occlusion.
That might be what we have seen here, and that might what has brought those snow showers so far south on this occasion.
In any case, that has now already cleared away to my south as I write, so all that we've ended up getting from that is a very slight dusting.
The north of Edinburgh, usually always missing out on snow events which occur not just within the rest of Scotland or the UK, but also within the rest of Edinburgh.
