The snow is holding on well here. Also, the swans are enjoying the ice on the Grand Union canal.

I've added a couple of photos in addition to the one below to the image gallery.

We have snow! Big fluffy flakes, too. And as the ground is frozen, they're already sticking everywhere 🥰

It's only a shower, but hopefully the first of many through today.

As I write, there is currently a band of snow showers (the radar maps confirm that they are snow showers) just to our north and east and as they approach us over the Firth of Forth, it has begun to get a little bit dark here in the north of Edinburgh.

Knowing my luck, this will probably all fizzle out by the time that it reaches us but even if it does, that is actually the closest that we've come to seeing any snow here in Edinburgh this winter up until now.

We have now just had a very light flurry of snow here in NW Edinburgh, although that still doesn't really appear to be coming to anything here.

I have to say that it is very unusual in any winter for the north of Edinburgh to see any snowflakes before the south of Edinburgh but I'm sure that both Jerry and Noodle Doodle will get their turn to see that before too long.

Soft hail and graupel shower here just now. It's covered the frozen ground instantly.

The thin snow cover is still in tact at my parent’s house in the Leatherhead area, Surrey. They said it’s like ice now though and pretty slippery, they are about 50masl, I imagine nearby Headley, Norbury Park and higher areas on the north downs still have a good covering.

Light snow is now falling here in NW Edinburgh but as yet, it isn't heavy enough to actually settle.

The snow here in NW Edinburgh has now got a little bit heavier and that is starting to give us a light dusting of snow on the ground. Even that has now given us more snow than what we had during the whole of last winter in this part of Edinburgh and that just shows how difficult it has become to actually get that these days.

It's still frosty in places here so the snow is just beginning to settle

Back in the Michael Fish era, that would have been shown just as a black curved line on the chart which is roughly perpendicular to the isobars but these days, that is more likely to be shown as a small cold front or occlusion.

That might be what we have seen here, and that might what has brought those snow showers so far south on this occasion.

In any case, that has now already cleared away to my south as I write, so all that we've ended up getting from that is a very slight dusting.

While the roads around the city aren’t great at the moment, it could be worse as some in Aberdeenshire are complete impassable: https://www.facebook.com/photo/?fbid=1301495788673583&set=a.547197120770124

We went up to the Lakes today (dry but cold, snow only on the tops of the highest peaks) and Tarn Hows was frozen to the extent that some idiots were walking pretty far out on the ice.

Expected to come home to numerous top-up showers having laid a couple of cm's. Not so - dry all afternoon and most of the lying snow has melted.

Yet just after getting back, the snow started again. Once more it's big fluffy flakes (preceded by some graupel) and has put a covering down on every surface

Looking at the radar, there's a better-looking conveyor of showers setting up, so fingers crossed.

Couple of flakes stuck to the car, but so frustrating to see the band go agonisingly close to the south. Not that anything was expected here but when you see it on the radar so close you get your hopes up!

Heavy snow here currently. Probably about an extra 5 cm of snow in the last hour or two. At least all the schools in the city are still opening tomorrow.

I suspect the level snow depth has now reached 1 foot. Even if it doesn’t snow much more tonight the warning is pretty spot on for here.

So it's starting to look like UKV maybe wasn't wildly optimistic with snow amounts for parts of Scotland.

I've been taking a periodic look at the Lecht snowgate stills and Aberdeen cams, along with Wundergrounds radar and it's looking like a cracking spell of wintry weather.

Yes, the UKV has been remarkably close to the reality over the last few days. Things are very snowy in around Aberdeen this evening and the Fubar Facebook site will give you an idea.

I think this may be the snowiest spell I have seen in Aberdeen (in my 30+ years of living here).

I just took the torch to "lamp post watch" in the back garden and there's very fine snowflakes falling here right now and they are settling on surfaces. Not sure if it's going to amount to much, but time will tell.
