I had already cleared my path to get to the road this morning. Since then I have cleared another 2+ cm of snow from the path and it is now covered again. I’m not really complaining (but it’s amusing to have cleared one end of it to the ground and get back to the other end and it’s covered again!)

There are some very heavy showers to the north of here with the risk of thundersnow (which some places have experienced recently).

Thought you might be getting some more just going by the city webcams - had that 'foggy' appearance that suggested some heavy showers rolling through.

The traffic cams look pretty wintry this morning and I do like the snowgate scene. Hard to tell the depth from that but I'd guess 'decent' :-

Exeter missed out as always so glad I am not there and I think most of Dartmoor (east missed out, so probably Haytor, Bovey Tracey, Chagford etc missed out as well).

Probably the first January snow that's properly settled since 2013. Despite the bright sun still there where it's shaded. Hoping for more showers later.

Makes me laugh Michael. You wait for ages for a decent snowfall and then spend a lot of time removing it. (Just joking). My sister used to have thing about us playing in snow when we were small. It ruined it she kept telling us. True.

I have learnt from past experience that  once the snow gets compressed on the path, with any freeze-thaw cycle it becomes an icy nightmare. 

My dog is only allowed to play in the back garden so as not to ruin the snow.. She absolutely loves it but it’s so deep now she has to more or less jump rather than walk through it (and she is a fully grown Labrador).

That happened to me in Jan 2010. Went out at 7.30 when it was about 5cm deep, cleared the path and around the cars. By the time I'd finished, it was 5cm deep again. Gave up and waited till it stopped.

Cool - Gavin is an amazing photographer - just realised I have worked with him before at events. Yes sourton is to the west . The snow showers were exceptionally localised with some places half a mile down the road all green where as other places under a few cms/1" or 2" of fresh powdery snow...on all roads and pavements.

It's only a shower, but hopefully the first of many through today.

I’m surprised how little snow fell here unexpectedly a few days ago it’s still holding well away from sunny spots. The Met Office mentions the possibility of snow showers tonight, but I doubt we’ll get anything unless you’re north of the M4. Grey skies are more likely for me, and at best a stray snow flurry.

Meanwhile in snow starved Edinburgh......
