Although 6C outside last night, insulation and thermal capacity of the house meant that temps didn't drop below 20C in the living room - and I wouldn't turn on the heating until it was below 18C anyway. Currently 14.9C outside, 21.5C inside and solar panel on the roof providing hot water at 47.6C

Heating has been on a few mornings  in the last week.  Temperatures were below 17c in the house a couple of mornings. Not surprising as there was a ground frost yesterday, so I would have thought people around here that haven't had the heating on is basing it on principle of it being September rather than comfort.

Still no need yet as yesterday was 28.5 living room and 35.3 conservatory so never went below 20 yet in the mornings. 

Down here in sunny South Wales it'll be a while yet before the heating comes on (usually late October), it's one of the perks of living in the bottom half of the UK and in a coastal location.

Gotta get the logs ordered. Wood burner is soooo much cheaper to run than a modern gas boiler these days. 

Likewise - 18.1 C this morning but I'm going to be out most of today and tomorrow so can hold out a little longer.

In the old days, Kent CC told schools not to turn on the heating until half term at the end of October.

nights are chilly though, and nothing beats drying towels and clothes properly on a radiator. 

I turned my heating on (set to its usual winter temperature of 17C) on the 1st. Google tells me it's been on for 1h45 since then, although when it came on late morning I turned it back to "eco" mode (i.e. 11C) - no point wasting heating when we were in for a warm afternoon!

£500 later, I had someone else (the person I should have called in the first place, but completely forgot about) come to sort out the hot water, so at least we don’t have to drive to David Lloyd just to have a shower.

Cutting a long and sad story short, hopefully he’ll start installing a new system later this week. The old system’s motherboard has died, so £4.8k later  plus the £500 service  I’ll have a new and functioning system.

I did get 18 years out of the previous boiler, which was installed by the person I bought the house from, so it certainly had a good run for the money.

We’re spoiled Eastern Europeans in this house and definitely don’t like the situation, but let’s just say we were moaning a bit less today. Lucky, I guess.

sorry to hear that. do you have an immersion heater on a tank, or just a combi boiler?  Always worth having a tank with a separate immersion in case the boiler packs up.  At least you can have hot water

I do but takes ages to warm up and then there is 4 of us with a 19 and 23 year old and all very sporty and active appart from Mrs...

We did have the log burner on Sat night as it makes for a cosy atmosphere when it's wet and windy outside. It does get rather warm downstairs but I also now quite like the old fashioned way of then retiring to a cooler bedroom

That why I built this conservatory due to keep us warm and this month no heating yet as it around low to mid 20's and once day hit 31.5C when was sunny warm day few days ago.  Today 24.3 so keeping the living room 21-22C range and with 12z ensembles showing above average to slightly above might keep this month possible heating free as long as possible.  

Even with an Australian wife who starts to defrost at 30c, the house is warm enough at around 19c with a blanket or jumper and I'm still in a t-shirt after my flu shot earlier today.

No conservatory, we just have decent Origin alu windows and doors throughout the house.

LOL.  you are cheapskate!  I hate wet towels, so even if its mild I have it on for an hour or two  just to dry the towel on the radiator
