It'll just be my luck that Edinburgh will get a storm this morning 🙄

Here in Nottingham, a bit of moderate rain 🙄

Torrential rain now falling here in Hawick in the Scottish Borders with some very intense echoes showing up on the latest radar map.

I haven’t noticed any thunder or lightning yet but there are some lightning strikes showing up just to my south on the latest radar maps.

Here in the Borders, we are just outside the official yellow warning area for thunderstorms as the Scotland-England border is marking the northern boundary of that warning area but given that we aren’t all that far from the northern boundary of that warning area, there’s always the chance of those storms reaching us here.

Just seen a flash of lightning here in Hawick with the odd rumble of thunder in the distance.

Well, whatever went wrong, it fooled every forecaster and pretty much all the computer models.

Did anybody get the severe storms and 100mm of life threatening flash floods or was this just more click bait for the UKMO You Tube Channels?

The earlier storm here in Hawick has cleared away from here and moved up to just to the east of Edinburgh.

As that has happened, it has expanded but the thunder and lightning from that has died away so there shouldn’t be any chance of anybody in Edinburgh hearing any distant rumbles of thunder in the distance from that.

That is in line with what I would expect as the yellow warning for thunderstorms is just an England only one.

Yep, lovely rain for the allotment, and garden…at no point was it heavy…so no run off and definitely no flooding! Met office usually very good with their warnings..but clearly on this occasion for West Sussex, an amber warning  was rather wide of the mark…

It's been raining here in the SE Midlands for a few hours now, light to moderate. No Thunder and lightning yet though, but thought we'd be lucky to see any of that  we were yellow warned.

A wet day for sure but not in amber warning territory

At last!

Some proper blobby rain which actually wets the ground which I haven't seen in a long while.

The only downside is that it has revealed my roof guttering needs some maintenance.

Nothing particularly exciting IMBY but at least wetter than the last amber warning 'event'!

Currently sat on 15.49mm of rain, the bulk of which fell from 04:00 to around 07:00 - have had a succession of mostly light to moderate showers since then but no thunder at all as far as I'm aware. Currently in a clearer patch and although there's a few echos heading my way they're of the 'light' variety so suspect that's largely it for the day.

Most of the stations within 10-15 miles of me seem to be between 10mm and 20mm, with the odd higher reading so a wet day so far but not exceptional. Interestingly the totals are generally higher the further east you head in Kent, to around Wye way anyway - given the main bulk of the rain was further west it suggests there's been some heavier showery bursts there than IMBY.

Assuming I don't manage to dodge the showers tomorrow, it does seem likely I'll end up exceeding last July's rainfall, which would mean both summer months IMBY are wetter than 2024, an amusing quirk albeit temps are significantly higher.

Louise Lear on BBC admitting not as much thunder as expected, . It is odd here that after the bit of rain this morning it came out very warm and humid and years ago would of expected a Thundery shower to pop up , nothing.🤔

Just noticed from the latest radar maps that a few lightning strikes have made it all the way up to the far north of Scotland just to show that this hasn’t turned out to be as much of an England only event as the official thunderstorm warnings would have made us believe.

Had a decent spell of rain for about an hour after lunch which actually managed to double the total to 12mm - welcome and useful for the garden and allotment but not really enough, at least so far, but I think more is coming.
