Yes, just checking GFS 12z and that definitely shows a much more unsettled pattern becoming established. Still very hot to the South though so it wouldn't take much to bring the heat back at least to the SE.

Ecm and AIFS 12z are consistent with their earlier runs. Basically hot and possibly thundery next week.

Ecm 12z has a massive HP building in 300h + this in theory should be more likely than LP, with aam on the rise. 

GFS was on the cooler side of the ensemble pack. 

Mean 850s for London hovering around 10C for London right to the end of the run which is above average I think?

There is nothing 'fantastic' about severe heat. Nothing. Period.

Personally I love hot weather. That doesn't mean I disagree with your concerns. 

Neither is there about bitter cold and snow,  but rarely is that so repeatedly called out as yourself the last 6 weeks or so re heat

For me it’s the fascination of extreme weather, which I assumed we all have in common, although I think we have a significant portion that exist here just to argue in the UIA, and of course, not all extremes are for everyone. Something else that others have pointed out to you recently. I don’t like cold weather, so it’s horses for courses

The trend remains for something more unsettled and less hot in the near terms. I certainly wouldn’t use any form of “cool” for southern areas. 

Beyond that, and with so much hot air across Europe and beyond, it’ll only be a matter of time before we tap into another Heatwave. 

Severe cold is a lot less dangerous than severe heat. In cold, it is easy enough to find sources of warmth than it is to find sources of cool in extreme heat.

I see that Aviemore reached 32.2C today (well, 32.18C) which is a new record high temperature for them.

It is not the extremes that concern some of us, it’s the cause, the clear direction of travel’ and the implications for European (including UK) summers as the years roll on.  Neither our flora and fauna are built to thrive in the new normal and our homes are mostly not designed for extreme, sustained heat either.

It on average from now to early August with the peak just close to 11C from the time I lived in Epsom and in winter down to -3C.  10C would give London average of 24-25C nowadays. 

You can use the words ‘full stop’ if you prefer but it doesn’t devalue Dev’s valid concerns.

Yes - about time we got some extreme weather. Like a few days of thunderstorms and torrential rain. In fact any rain would be extreme in these parts- even some drizzle! These constant heatwaves are getting very boring and not really extreme any more till we hit 40C. By the way you may remember me doubting the forecast here of 34-35C this heatwave. It peaked at 31.2 on Thursday and gradually fell to a glorious 25.4C here today.
