Indeed it is.🍺 A cold beer later but seriously it's a tough one for the garden plants this year. The blackbirds have had several broods and are now struggling to find the food they like in the shrubbery and cool spots. The lawn is parched but it's pleasant sitting in the 'tropical garden'  listening to the fountain. Lots of bees this year and different butterflies recently.  Daughter back from Falmouth where of course it's usually been much cooler than here. I think it's about 24C today in Falmouth compared to about 30C here. It just goes on and on and on this dry period. 

It surely can't go on much longer like this? I know Wessex Water and others are starting to get more than concerned. If it's still like this come September/October, who knows where we will be?

Here in Edinburgh, the sunshine is back with a vengeance this evening but today's maximum temperature at Edinburgh Gogarbank was 23.9°C, a temperature which was recorded at around lunch-time before the earlier cloud came in although this is still enough for today to go down as our warmest day of this month so far.

It's another warm and sticky evening as well with the temperature still at around 22°C which is a bit too warm for me, especially as that temperature has actually gone back up a little bit in the last hour or so with that late sunshine.

I do get that we are not a Mediterranean climate just yet, but I really don't think it's that far away, it was only 10 years ago that a DP of 19.4c would have sent the raised the forum interest but it seems normal now.

Currently 24.8c and I fancy a nice cool walk as my homemade blue cheese burgers feel like a good half pounder...

Last night was slightly cooler than the previous night with an overnight minimum temperature of 11.5°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

Currently already around 16°C here in Edinburgh although the Met Office have now downgraded today's predicted maximum temperature to around 24°C as a result of a slight breeze from off the North Sea which is already starting to show its hand, and that might not even be enough to give us our warmest day of the month today.

As I write, we're not even at the start to the official observation day at 9z (which at this time of year, is 10am BST) and yet the temperature here in Edinburgh is already at around 21°C and although it had looked for a while as though we might get a slight breeze from off the North Sea, that hasn't actually materialised.

The Met Office are still sticking with their guns though by going for a maximum of only 24°C for today and have also downgraded tomorrow's forecast maximum to around 24°C. If that comes off, we won't even be getting any 25+°C maximums now from this spell of weather, let alone any actual heatwave.

Temps climbing very quickly today, already up to 26.5c, about 1.5c warmer than yesterday so far. DP is 19c

26.3c and sunny, likely to be the hottest day of this spell here today with around 30-31c expected. 

30.3c a few mins after midday, 33c could be on the cards I think here

From that, it would appear that the Met Office has probably underestimated today's predicted maximum and whilst it was sticking to its guns with that same forecast despite a very early sharp rise in the temperature, I already had a feeling that this would end up being the case.

Forecasts at the end of the day, can be wrong and because of that, who's to say that Edinburgh won't have a heatwave after all in the coming days despite the forecasts saying 'NO' to that happening. As it is, the temperature at Edinburgh Gogarbank only needs to rise by a further 0.2°C or more for a possible heatwave to start today and I reckon that this is something which could happen quite easily now despite what the Met Office forecasts keep on telling us.

EDIT:

I can also confirm that Edinburgh Gogarbank has now just had its first 25+°C maximum of this month with the temperature now up to 25.1°C so the possible official heatwave between today and Sunday inclusive is still on!!

Matches the official high so far which was further out west, just south of Birmingham.

I thought we'd manage a 33c and our top was 32.7c so pretty close.

Currently 27.7c and sunny. 

Hit a high of 30.4C on a weather station 10 mtrs above ground, not high for southern counties but notable for speyside .

Was still 28C at 8pm too😳, and today was only supposed to hit 26C . 

It's not very often that we get a 30+°C maximum here in Scotland although I would expect these to become more common over time due to ongoing climate change.

As for here in Edinburgh, there is no 30+°C maximum to report and today wasn't even our hottest day of either this year or this summer, but today's maximum temperature at Edinburgh Gogarbank did reach 26.0°C with an incredible 15.3 hours of sunshine being recorded for today in the end.

That makes today our hottest day of this month so far, and this was also our first 25+°C maximum of this month.

In addition to that, that also makes today our sunniest day of not only this month or this summer, but of this entire year thus once again symbolising this year as the year in which the Sun will just not stop shining here.

This was achieved as a result of constant unbroken sunshine from sunrise to sunset but given that the days are now gradually shortening once again now that we are well past the summer solstice, that is a total will is unlikely to be beaten or even matched again throughout the rest of this year.

Currently a rather humid 17°C here in Edinburgh.

Looks like it went even higher at 5.30pm to 35.1c
