I'm not sure how accurate home weather stations are (Davis Vantage Pro or Vue) but a number in and around the Medway Towns are already showing 35°C with the majority showing 33°C! Across the Thames, one station at Stanford-Le-Hope is showing 37°C!

A friend's station on the outskirts of Chatham recorded its peak of 31C at 18:00 yesterday evening rather than the expected 14:00-15:00??

The humidity will be a key reason records won't be broken, and temperatures will be in 33-35C range rather than record breaking. 

Dew points over central, northeast France/ Paris area are much lower allowing the much higher temperatures. 

Will be interesting to see how high Brogdale gets... although always takes a while to report.

On thee subject of stations where can I view readings for Frittenden and East Malling?

Frittenden and East Malling are on Weatherobs.

Writtle was my pick for the top today and is so far leading the way with 33.9C at 3pm.  East Malling just behind on 33.8C. Frittenden was 33.5C but now down to 33.1.

Notable how many North Kent PWS now have 36 or 37C showing. Mine has plateaued quite surprisingly at or around 30C and only maxed earlier at 31.4C, actually cooler than yesterday. Something about the topography of the North Downs and/or marine layer incursion because all the nearby stations are quite low too. 

FWIW that was yesterday's max, looks like they only report once a day at 9z, so the "max" will always be from the day before. It'll be interesting to see what they come up with when they update tomorrow!

EDIT: And 32.7 eclipses anything from Faversham in 1976, as the absolute max then was 32.0C one day in July. 

Yes, sorry I didn't make that clear - I assumed people knew that it only reports once daily so that was yesterday's figure.

I had a look round some other likely spots but many of the manual stations on the Met Office list don't seem to show up there, or if they do they don't have recent readings.

According to Liam Dutton on Twitter, 34.4C at Writtle was the peak as of 3.12pm. All eyes on the 5pm readings.

TBF I think the MetO WOW site could make it clearer - I know logically it's yesterday's max, but it doesn't say it explicitly anywhere. They aim WOW at a general audience, after all, although I doubt many amateurs manually enter their observations in there! (My weather station is on there, as Cumulus has an option to upload to WOW - may as well, I thought).

I suspect there will be some late maxima. Here, for example, it's now 32.3, following the introduction of a nominally southerly airflow, and doubtless that'll be affecting other north Kent stations too. I would say Brogdale will almost certainly be reporting a 35+ max for today.

EDIT: And data from stations like mine is fed into NWP, as the Met Office use WOW as a source of extra observations, presumably with a caveat that they won't be as good as official sites would. I think that's pretty much unique, as e..g Weather Underground data isn't used anywhere else.

I still reckon Brogdale will beat it, but it won't make tonight's roundup. We'll see!

I am still rising here, now 35.5c, its amazing this late in the day.

Yes here were the hottest as of the 5pm readings. Brogdale might beat it, check in tomorrow.

It is indeed, and yes, a late rise! It's breezy out there now, and feels like being on holiday in Italy back in the 90s...

Is St James officially back in operation? Wasn't that where the fiasco was earlier in the summer?

It seems to be. I think there were temporary metal barriers etc stacked near the weather station for an event a few weeks ago?

IIRC, it was out of action when potentially in pole position for recording the first 30C of the season.

I went past it yesterday and there weren't any barriers around it.

Still no sign of yesterday's Brogdale max online.

I asked this question in the July CET thread but Pershore looks dodgy today it's too high. What happens with the CET if a site is faulty?

Apparently European heatwave is shifting Eastwards. Could be distinctly average for UK for rest of summer.

What's the source for that? Met Office long-ranger suggests increasingly warm or hot later in July, initially in the south but warmth likely spreading to all parts of the UK.

Brogdale reading for 1 July is in... a whopping 35.8ºC!
