So it's 0930 on the summer solstice and the sun has been up for 5 hours or so and many people in the UK are enjoying yet another mid-summer day with temperatures already up into the 20's.....

......but not in this city, it's damp, it's foggy, it's 13 C

It's mainly cloudy now and Brians updated rain radar proves it's worth with the pale blue showing here as very light spits of rain.

That hasn't prevented the temperature from rising to 25.7C and the sun shining through the clouds.

Sunny and 27c.  Not sure how much further it will rise before the cloud moves in.

So as most of England is rising into the mid to high 20's, this god forsaken place remains at 14 C with swirling fog on a moderate easterly wind 🤮

Not so today but when it does, it's a spooky place with the old churches on the top and lighthouses at the far end.

Should be in the moaning thread but hasn't Richard from Aberdeen gone on holiday somewhere warm? Otherwise I'm sure we'd be hearing from him today.

BBC forecast still resolutely sticking to full sun for the London area when a glance at the satellite would show that’s wrong.

Quite windy and dark clouds to the west. Not looking nearly as good as forecast today.

Hopefully, like Jim says it's been very dry.  Sure you will get some warmth before the end of the day, surely the haar has to go as the winds switch around to Westerly.

Here in Edinburgh, the earlier fog has now lifted into mist and low cloud but there continues to be not even the slightest hint of any brightness here, let alone any actual sunshine.

As a result, the temperature here continues to remain stuck at around 15°C which isn't even the least bit warm for this time of the year any more (this makes it hard to believe that yesterday was actually our hottest June day on record, but that already seems like a very distant memory now).😡

Absolutely pathetic!!😡

Looks to me like a bog standard cloudy day across the UK with light rain? So much for the hype....jumpers on here. Looking forward to the fresh westerly.....it'll be warmer than todays 15 C 😂

Just drove to Bristol from St Albans. Once we got west of Reading it turned overcast with occasional light showers. Much cooler out west already

Glanced at the "garden thermometer" on our woodshed at 1.40pm and it said 33°C. May not be a precision instrument - but it was in the shade and usually trustworthy. I'll knock off 2°C to err on the cautious. I wonder if RAF Coningsby or Waddington will confirm? Coningsby says 31°C, Waddington 29°C.

I'll say I'm confident we've hit the 30°C here today. 😁

31.5C here at 2.00pm. On target to be hottest day of year if the hazy cloud doesn't get here too soon.

I suspect the hottest temp today will be around 32C somewhere near the Brecks like Marham or Santon Downham.

I'd gladly take "haar" over the utter dross we're going to get down here today... at least you don't sweat your balls off, while listening to other people making a racket when it's foggy!

Incidentally today shows the benefits of having a decent-sized garden, with a lawn and plenty of trees and shrubs. My station is reporting 16.4, in direct sunlight, while the chap over the road - with a small garden with lots of concrete/decking - is reporting 23! Most of the other stations on Sheppey are reporting similar values to his.

Cloud cleared in Bristol after my earlier report. Feeling very warm but with a fresher breeze just starting to kick in. 28C

It's now raining here in Edinburgh with a temperature of only around 16°C which is more than 12°C cooler than it was yesterday.

30.1, dew 16.4, with some milky higher level cloud - it's really been struggling to come in from the west, fizzling rapidly as it encounters the hostile atmosphere of Kent, and to the east it's still clear with blue skies.

It's been a stifling afternoon so far, and a very unpleasant night for sleeping beckons. It's why I'm always baffled why people want this sort of weather, especially as most don't have a/c!

PS, to Tally - I have my own web server, in reality a server in my back bedroom, which means I can just copy files on there and show them by using the image button (on the toolbar when you're posting something). There are various sites which allow you to upload an image and get a "direct link", but recently they seem to have become infested with porn ads, or delete the image after a short while. TWO does have an image uploader (which has the added bonus of images not being shrunk to a tiny size when inserted), but of course that's just for weather images!

Interesting to see temps still rising to the west of the band of cloud as well as to the east. Yeovilton has gone up to 31.5C at 4pm. A shame that cloud pegged temperatures back up the spine of the country or we could have seen a 34 or 35 today.
