Keep checking. Too cloudy here for anything to be visible. I may have to stay with the bats! 🦇🦇🦇

I’ve tried that with the northern lights but it doesn’t work. 🤪

"NOAA forecasters say that moderate (G2-class) geomagnetic storms are possible on June 5th as Earth enters a high-speed stream of solar wind. The gaseous material is blowing faster than 700 km/s from a hole in the sun's atmosphere."

Maybe with the smoke particles if they are still present, we we see an Apricot Moon instead.

I doubt the "seeing" will be good, [Full moon and long day.] but still interesting.

The Strawberry moon had a very strawberry like colour to it, last night, as it cleared the rooftops to the southwest with the cloud thin enough to make it visible and appear large as it was not that far above the horizon, this was not long before midnight.

NMA's suggestion of an 'apricot moon' was a good one - certainly more that colour than strawberry. And at about 11pm it was only just clear of the roof tops in the city centre, even  when observed from my second storey bedroom, so definitely lower than I've seen before (or, indeed, ever expect to see).

I watched it rise but it was a bit hidden by a cloud. I went to bed and was up at 3am to see it sink in a clear sky over the Isle of Portland.

No photos but it looked much the same as the photo below.

Indeed the Strawberry name I understand comes from the time the local inhabitants of what is today North America called it.

Strawberry harvest time.

The Sturgeon Moon name for a similar reason and one I watched in Covid times setting in the same way, only this time with the ocean liners taking prime place. That was August. I also caught at that day the sun rising on the ships and the moon setting behind. No one else saw it happen. The pics are also somewhere on TWO.

One of them. Sturgeon Moon.

I have noticed, such as when we've had "Supermoons" that as it rises it is often more red in colour, when clearing the horizon, just like the picture I took, whilst in France, a couple of years ago and shared on the TWO gallery. It's no doubt due to the angle that it ends up that colour. It is equally fascinating the names for the full moon each month in the American calendar, they are certainly fun.

The further north you are of course the lighter it'll be. I read something as a child that said in Shetland it's still light enough to read a book outside at midnight GMT in the middle of June... whether that's true or not I couldn't say.

How do I know the world is like this? By looking! [Lao Tzu]

The best way to miss an aurora is not to look!

"Arriving earlier than expected, a CIR (co-rotating interaction region) hit Earth's magnetic field on June 13th, sparking a G2-class geomanetic storm. The storm is still underway now, and there is a chance it could intensify to category G3" - but that's for high latitudes. Not me!

"Whichever hemisphere you live in -- today is the solstice! For northerners, it is the summer solstice; for southerners, the winter solstice. Northern summer and southern winter begin at precisely the same time: 10:42 p.m. EDT on June 20th (02:42 UTC on June 21st). Happy Solstice!"

Sunspot 4114 did it again. On June 19th at 23:50 UTC, the active region produced another X-class solar flare.
