It did reach  -1c earlier in the night but it's all change now. 6c, rain and a rising South Easterly wind. Back to bed, for me, I think, glad that I don't need to go out in this!

A nice, bright and sunny start to today here in Edinburgh after some overnight showers followed by what was nothing more than a ground frost.

The Spanish named Storm Herminia is due to arrive from the south in the latter part of this afternoon though and there is already some high cloud to my south which is associated with that so, this morning will be a case of making the most of what we have before that happens.

Currently around 2°C here in Edinburgh.

The north of Edinburgh, usually always missing out on snow events which occur not just within the rest of Scotland or the UK, but also within the rest of Edinburgh.

Last night, skies stayed clear for longer than expected and thus enabled a frost to set in. Thick high cloud is now already covering the sky as I type this and while it is still dry at the moment, I'm already feeling the effects of a strengthening southerly wind - the worst wind direction for my location as it comes straight in from the harbour unimpeded. It's also making the current 5.9 C & mid 80% H feel a lot colder than it needs to be.
Home location: Folkestone Harbour.

FRosty earlier, but now a glaze of crunchy ice. Earlier very light precipitation must have been effectively freezing rain as surfaces are covered by a thin sheen of ice.

Our estate is impassable, currently.

After yesterday's unexpected glorious weather, sunny and calm all day, today is compensating! First batch of moderate rain has arrived amidst squally winds and temperature of only 4.9C - yuk! I think the second batch this evening looks even heavier.

Fair with sunny spells and fast moving cumulus, 9.4 C & mid 80% H. I'm currently being sheltered by the SW airflow by the nearby built up hilly bit so it's actually fairly quiet wind-wise at the moment. Not sure if anything of note happened last night as I was out like a light most of the time, my rain gauge shows 1.8 mm since the station 12 pm reset. Met Office data shows a 58 mph gust at 2 am but that's at Langdon Bay, Dover, 200 m ASL.
Home location: Folkestone Harbour.

Some potent thundery showers combined with near gale force south-west winds.

Just had a phone call asking me to cancel a work related matter on the coast because of the atrocious conditions there.

The car would have been well salted.

Had an impressive hailstorm here just before midday. No thunder/lightning though...
