Cold, calm and with mostly clear skies - very pleasant, in fact.

0.4, dew -0.9, the overnight low being 0.3. Yesterday's high was 12.3, or (if you go by after 9AM only), 11.2.

Was -2 and frosty first thing but has since clouded over with very light snow falling. The type where you have to stare at a dark background to see it. The individual flakes are visible, laying on decking and garden furnture

Drove to work in the snow today at 7:30am, settling ok with us on the Downs, and looking scenic, and then I got to Reading...

The snow which fell this morning looks great under a clear blue sky, a slight breeze cooling the temps which stands at 1,4c with a 0dp with a temp minimum of 0.1c at 03:40, pressure 1000mb.

Merry Christmas to all Orthodox Christians who might be reading this (they go by the old Julian Calendar instead of the Gregorian Calendar which we go by and therefore celebrate Christmas much later than those of us from the main Catholic and Protestant denominations which make up the vast majority of this forum's viewers).

Last night's overnight minimum temperature at Edinburgh Gogarbank was exactly 0.0°C which isn't quite enough to give us an air frost (Meteomanz.com even shows that with a leading plus sign, thus confirming that there was no actual air frost on this occasion) thanks to there still being too much wind😡 although we did at least get a ground frost with that.

Meanwhile, the current temperature here in  Edinburgh is around 2°C with plenty of decent sunshine although there is still a lot of cloud to the NE which is still hiding the First Quarter Moon which had risen some time ago.

After an isolated light rain shower passed over at 10 am, the rest of the morning turned out fine and sunny - but sadly that was not to last as it is currently (1pm) overcast again. A chilly feeling 4.4 C & mid 85% H where the light W breeze is enough to produce a slight wind chill. Hopefully the sun may break through at sundown to give a coloured dusk skyscape.

Walked to the shop there, or should I say crawled. Black ice, hard packed frozen slush and snow patches making every step an absolute nightmare. And the temp outside? +1.1c, despite most of the models and apps having me at -3.0c right now. As I said in another thread, it is really incredible that the models don't even consider actual temperature and satellite data etc before they churn out a run. Even Met Eireann have me down for a -7.0c tonight, which is obviously blindy based solely on model runs. I'll be lucky to even get a 0.0c in this much diluted and wet Arctic flow. Shockingly bad performance all round.

No snow here this morning…but always hope. Cloud increased during the night along with the wind. It’s now 4.6c with a moderate ESE breeze.

A raw very unpleasant day ahead…

Mostly cloudy, with the fronts to the south approaching. After NW'lies earlier the wind has fallen almost calm, just the odd puff from the west.

It's frosty, too, one of those nights where the temperature kept yo-yoing just above and just below freezing, the sort of morning where car windows have solid beads of ice on them. It's currently -0.1, dew -1.4, and rising slowly.

Last night's low was -0.8 and yesterday's high was just 4.4.

Today has started off with an official air frost at all three of my local stations but the overnight minimum temperature at Edinburgh Gogarbank was only down to -0.5°C which for a cold spell in the very heart of winter is very poor indeed.😡

I'm noticing that 2 cm of lying snow has been recorded at Edinburgh Gogarbank and there is some frost around but I have no idea as to where that reading could have come from as there is certainly no lying snow around here in NW Edinburgh and not even a massive amount of frost (there's certainly no way that there is anything like enough frost around to equate to 2 cm of lying snow).

Nevertheless, the skies are clear just now which means that once the Sun comes up a little bit later on, we should get some decent sunshine to start the day at least.

Currently around 0°C here in Edinburgh and only just below freezing and no more even though the Sun hasn't yet risen which means that this should be the coldest part of the overnight period on average.😡

Around 3c here, heavy pulses of rain with the odd blob of sleet to remind me of what might have been.  I'm not saying this would have been snow in the 1980's either, but each year seems to bring fewer opportunities.  We need a clean easterly established first; then this sort of system would have a fighting chance of delivering here in Jersey.  The wait goes on!

The overnight minimum temperature at Edinburgh Gogarbank has been corrected to -0.9°C with the 09z raw SYNOP/BUFR data but that is still very poor in comparison with what others have been reporting.

Nevertheless, the Sun is now up and this morning has at least started off on a bright and sunny note with the temperature here in Edinburgh still at around 0°C.

Just driven to work, temperature range on my car went from 2c 4 miles inland at 650ft to 3.5c driving past the estuary. Sky is monotone grey with moderate rain, sleet on the hills and a fresh E wind.

I would imagine the moors will do well.

A pretty chilly day out there under a grey sky, we've a lot of slippery ice about and still snow covering roofs and other surfaces. Temps are hovering around zero with DP of -1, no breeze at all so could have been worse cold wise if out. If and when the snow gets here and that's a big if, it should settle quick on the icy surfaces.

Extensive thick high cloud but dry for now. 4.2 C & high 80% H. Likely to be rain here at my low laying coastal location if/when that precipitation over France make it this way later today. Did manage an air frost overnight with a min of -0.1 C at 5.30 am.
