Well done for first lying snow in 4 years, must have been a frustrating 24hrs of cold rain. I must admit I saw precipitation radar Saturday night into Sunday for Ireland and it showed Cork in rain and just a few miles inland heavy snow and same for Waterford. Glad you (Finally) saw some snow and lying snow too.

The south west missed out (Devon) - except some sleety hail which became all rain there was no snow but Dartmoor saw at least an hour of wet snowflakes on Saturday afternoon at around 15:00 if I remember.

I hope on Wednesday this channel low will hit southern regions and give snow to those south of M4 because the last system most of the snow (esp accumulating snow) was north of M4. Fingers crossed for Wednesday.

As it happens, I was both very unlucky and very lucky. Unlucky because my location was very close to snow for much of the initial 24 hour period of rain. By  Saturday night, there was lying snow just 20 miles to the North. Had the entire system been a little further South, I suspect that alot of the rain would have been snow. I felt particularly hard done by to have a few hours of heavy rain on Sunday with temperatures around 1c!

On the other hand, I was lucky to get anything. This was quite a marginal situation all along and we could easily have missed out entirely. By 3 yesterday  we finally got on the back edge of the system, the breeze swung to the North and the rain turned to snow quite quickly. We were lucky that we had a spell of heavy snow for an hour or more which was enough to give us an inch or so, enough to cover the ground. The weather apps and radar suggested a few hours of heavy snow but as it happened, there was little enough after 4.30. Many parts of the Southern and Eastern coastal zone didn't get lying snow at all. My sister is based in Cork City and while they had falling snow, it didn't lie at all. I would have loved to have more snow but I'm not complaining either! What snow we have should hang around for a few days too given the time of year and low temperatures forecast.

I'm sorry to hear that you missed out. I do hope that you get to see some snow soon. You should have a good chance at your current location given the elevation. 

5-6cm new snow since yesterday's mornings fall and total around 14-19cm depending on where measure.  50m further up must have a lot more though.

Lots of snow on the side roads at least and slushy mess on main roads. Many schools closed for the day. 

What a wasted opportunity

Snow started falling at 10pm, turning to ice pellets at 6am, eventually transitioning to light rain and drizzle at 8.30am.

I expected a little more to be honest but beggars can't be choosers in this day and age. I would have to go all the way back to January 2013 to have witnessed a 10cm snow cover. 

I loved the whole experience though. A journey I would make again. 

If anywhere gets snow in England, Buxton would be at or near the top. When I was growing up in the area we would always say when we had sleety rain “I bet it’s snowing in Buxton”. 

It's then froze a little overnight.

We've just had another brief snow shower, which has turned sleety - the sky has that weird colour to it, though

Similar story for me Saint, Went to be about 11:35 with it snowing very wet, sleet ish, but on and off.  Not enough to warrant me staying up

Woke to 2-3 inches here, for the 3rd day on the bounce.  Im meant to be out running, and ive had to cancel again!

Probably the best cold spell since 2010 for me this.  every day at least 2 inches falling.  We go 2-3 years for that one of that kind of event 

I'm working from home today and just been out to the car. Everything is frozen solid - including the remaining slush and standing water from yesterday. It's pretty treacherous.
