Amazing what that altitude difference has done on this occasion.

In 2010 we shared in the heavy snow and temperatures. Clearly you've received much more than us, though the temperature probably isn't much different. Wish it would thaw a bit to be honest. It's like lockdown here and yet you can see green on some grass surfaces. Just rock hard compacted ice on the estate essentially trapping us.

I had to dig inches of snow off the road yesterday lunchtime, just so it wasn't single track.  But loads of the smaller estate roads are still no goes and anywhere where there is a hill to get off the road is trapped too.  I do love snow, but with school drop offs and pushchairs it has been a bit of a nightmare. And I want to start Marathon training!

Started raining about an hour ago, progressively turned sleety and now wet snow at varying strengths for the past 30 mins

Hoping for some settling snow by dark but down on the West Sussex coast beggars can’t be choosers.

Yep just started snowing here and getting heavier, not settling yet but should if it gets heavy enough, temps 1.1c and dp-1c so all good signs. Fall number three so our best start to a new year for a very long time.

Princetown webcam looks good. Then again, it does have the advantage of being at an elevation of near enough to 1500 feet.

We spent a week in Devon last August and our visit to Dartmoor was definitely a highlight. I recall stopping at the highest pub in Dartmoor for a drink - the Warren House Inn(I think). Wouldn't mind being there today!

You know it's gone wrong snow-wise when areas further west are seeing it than here at Kent that is the most nearest to the Continent. 🤣

Just looked at Wunderground radar and saw it had me as under light snow, snorted and thought rubbish. Looked out the window and it is indeed snowing! Suspect it's a rain/snow mix, current temp 1.2c with a 0.4c DP.

Edit - it is in fact all snow - hints of settling on the grass and some of the flower beds, temp now 0.9c with a 0.1C DP.

Snowing in Crowborough, E-Sussex @ 150m asl. Large flakes and settling on lawn, roofs etc. Pictures from wife at home so can't speak for the roads/pavements etc.

According to the local station (much lower elevation about a mile away) - DP -0.5 / Temp 0.6c

Currently nothing here at the base of Ide/Toys hill but feeling damned cold with frost still present.

Even so, though, you'd have expected to be importing colder air from the Continent with such a feed, but in reality it's 5C at Calais - so nope.

The old rule of thumb for us was that you'd want it to be -2 or -3 at Calais for it to still be freezing here, and that'd go for you as well. Outside of that we're relying on the intensity to pull down some of that colder air aloft...

Steady snow here with the drip drip drip off the thatch and puddles on the ground.

An accumulation on favoured surfaces like bare earthed plant pots, the shed and car. If it goes on for a few hours, who knows how much there will be to see?

But it will probably be a job and a half for anyone clearing the frozen slush off their car tomorrow.
