Quite a remarkable cold period this has been for northern areas.   This should be remembered for a long time for some... up there with 2013, 2010 and 2009....

Im hopefully heading into wales and walking Moel Fammau later, thats been high enough for constant snow since Saturday night, being topped up by todays snow too...  Will be interesting to see what totals they have.

The north of Edinburgh, usually always missing out on snow events which occur not just within the rest of Scotland or the UK, but also within the rest of Edinburgh.

We've done OK but, to illustrate how locally sporadic the snow has been, I travel just literally a couple of miles SW of my house and the snow is markedly deeper (2-3 inches as opposed to around 2cm here, now), and that runs all the way to Widnes.

For MBY, it falls a long way behind 09/10/13. But it's the best/snowiest spell since 2013.

PS - I'd love a report back from Moel Famau  😉

Snow showers this afternoon, slowly lowering the temperature.  This last one (and probably the last one) is very heavy and has dropped the temp to 0.0c.  Settling fully on the cleared road/paths.  Unexpected!

Ill timed with school pick up time.  Seen lots of people start using the cars for the first time this afternoon as roads have been better ploughed and gritted and along comes this shower, oh dear.

A few snow showers here today, depositing a transient covering on top of the patches that are still lying from Sunday.

The “poor” cold spell for Edinburgh has been a cracker here in speyside and the northeast( away from the coasts)

Currently at 20cm level snow, with another 7 cm added today, temps have not been too low, averaging -5C , but Thursday /Friday might set some new records in some areas . It becomes a little troublesome at -15 and below.

Most snow we have had here for the last 6 years since I moved here.

We had three very good days from Thursday to Saturday but since Sunday it has been dire. Almost no sunshine, temperature barely below freezing and a vile mix off the North Sea yesterday which turned the snow to an ugly, sludgy mess.

Today there looked to be a mass of snow working down from the North but it inexplicably fizzled out into almost nothing. The same lack of rationale was apparant when the sky cleared during the afternoon everywhere expect where the sun was situated which remained stuck under a persistent lump of grey muck.

There was also a horrible wind today which, as well as being thoroughly unpleasant, is preventing the temperature falling. So tedious. Last January's cold spell was much better and if there isn't going to be any more proper snow or decent cold then I'd rather see the back of it.

Even the southern suburbs of Edinburgh are still snow covered after 6 days. Penicuik, Fairmilehead, Swanston, Colinton, Balerno all have between 2-5 cm of frozen snow. I went up to the bottom of The Pentlands earlier today, it's about 10cm deep at 400m and everything is frozen hard and will be until the weekend, I needed my spikes on. I'm hoping to walk up a couple of the hills over 500m on Friday when it's calmer!

Looking at the cold spell, the deepest longest lasting snow has been in the northern half of Scotland, higher parts of Wales, The Lakes, The Borders, Cumbria, Northumberland, Yorkshire, Lancashire

Memorable in these areas but a damp squib in others 🙄

The coverings of snow which we get with that are always very brief as are the cold snaps themselves, but at least we actually get those coverings of snow at those times and that has not even been the case under this current pattern which the North Sea influence has completely ruined for us yet again.😡

The snow cover looks likely to stay here for another few days based on current and forecast conditions. There had been limited melting due to the persistent chilly temperatures, but some thaw and refreeeze means the snow is very solid and crunchy rather than fluffy. There is still cover all the way down to the sea front  and I haven’t seen the surface of our road since the 2nd. Many side roads remain snow and ice covered.

There are quite a few wintry showers around and a strong cold wind currently, and while many of the showers are missing here they are still significantly impacting areas in Aberdeenshire and beyond.

My drive up to Cumbria on Monday was interesting. There was quite a bit of snow around Chorley, which had more or less vanished by the time we got to Preston. Most of lowland Lancashire was then snowless until we got to just before Tebay on the M6. There the snow returned and got quite deep as we got to towards the Shap Summit (expected), before becoming a bit less deep by the time we got to Penrith.

After we then got on the A66 through the Lakes, that was very picturesque. My missus took a few good photos of the fells coverned with snow. The snow then more or less vanished around Bassenthwaite and then returned after Cockermouth, which was surprising. Quite a bit of coastal Cumbria has seen snow as well.

It's quite interesting how it can vary so much over small distances...

This should turn into a good spell for Leeds.

Based on the forecast we will have continuous snow cover for a week (from Sunday last week to Saturday this week), with temperatures possibly falling to -9C on Thursday morning (as per the BBC).

The first transitory event did deliver some snow, less than 1cm before it turned to rain and Sunday finished at 13 degrees C. Monday was fun, starting the day at 11 degrees C and within an hour, he temperature dropped to 1 degree C and rain turned to snow, and it snowed for 2 hours, but did not settle. On Tuesday morning, I awoke to find a dusting from a night snow shower.  It was just a dusting, but a little thicker ‘down the road’ - 5 mins drive -  in Mundford, where the snow was a proper white covering. I feel that will be the summation of this cold snap, so it has surpassed last winter already and the one before that!

I was initially annoyed that the snow turned to rain on Sunday , but then to get such a top up Sunday night, and surprise snow yesterday, and with deep snow frozen solid it is turning into a really memorable spell.

Children's school is opening late again today as yesterday was chaos and Monday it was closed.   Certainly quite a lot of disruption.

The lower car park had approx 15cm of snow lying,  The peak had erratically say 30/40cm  But the drifts were 1-1.5m .

If the weather holds, i might try Horseshoe pass for sledging on Saturday as it was excellent condition and accessible.

We haven't left the house since Saturday, and although that snow shower that Tim A mentioned above put a sheen on the roads I;m going to have to go out in the car because we're running short of things we didn't expect to be worrying about bearing in mind it was all supposed to melt away and certainly nothing exceptional forecast in terms of temperatures.

I do wish it would go away now though. It's neither deep enough to be picturesque, but it is icy enough to make estate roads very dangerous. However it just looks like we've a relatively exceptional period of night time cold to come until the weekend.

It's like lockdown here and yet you can see green on some grass surfaces. Just rock hard compacted ice on the estate essentially trapping us.
