I always think it looks best when not full as you can get surprising detail with sidelight contrast - even with quite modest cameras if you don't over-expose it.
Taking the shot before it is dark can work well too.

Does everybody use that ipost thing to get an image on here? I've never been able to get an image into a post, only in the gallery. Presumably there is no direct upload from my PC like Flckr for example so what is the current easiest way?

July's full moon passed by low in the southern sky last night. Summer full moons always sit low in the sky as is, but this one also occurred close to the southern lunistice.

I was out at 2.15am enjoying the sight, Bolty. Jupiter rising was stunning! Then I did wordle!!!! No bats about, sadly. Tried several frequencies.

It looked great Roger! That's about the time I taken mine too. I was on my break at work and the Moon looked fantastic. I'm making it a project to take a photo of every full moon for the foreseeable.

Since covid and the energy price rises the nights are significantly darker. Also I now have eye issues - developing cararacts which give interesting double vision - like 2 Jupiters, or twin space stations! Improves bird counts no end. 🤣

Thanks! Yes, I try to do it properly and I too firmly believe that a proper camera gives the best shots. If you get a good, crisp photo, all that's needed (if at all) are some slight adjustments on basic editing software.

Hopeless in the UK for astro photography. It is peak Milky Way  season and moon now favourable for a couple of weeks (in that it won't have risen before Milky Way shows) yet despite the apparent blue skies the Astro index (scale 1- 10, really need 7+) is zero. Yes zero. Thin high cloud, general haze and pollution being the cause.
