Yes, I was reading about this a month or so back when the town was evacuated.  It’s possible if history is a guide that the area will be largely uninhabitable for a very long time.

It was noticeable how the recent eruptions all follow almost the same NNE-SSW line.  In a way I guess that’s good news in that it’s a little more predictable, but that the best you can say.

I follow an Icelandic gentleman, on youtube, who has said as much since the first eruption back in 2020, he is very informative and great for any local history. I doubt I'm the only one here who knows of Just Icelandic YT channel, he also has a great sense of humour!

I often reflect on the possible climate impact of a significant upturn in volcanic activity, perhaps combined with more forest fires as GW progresses.

In theory the magma chamber under Svartsengi will have accumulated enough lava to possibly trigger another magma run over the next few days or couple of weeks. According to the Iceland MetO the threshold seems to be 8-12 million cubic meters and it's at 7.6m now. 

You'd assume an eruption is very likely just because there's clearly a pathway there that the lava can push through but in theory it might not make it to the surface I guess.  

Be interesting to see where this one comes up if it does erupt, hopefully for the sake of the town it's in a similar area to the last one and doesn't trend south and erupt near or in town or just out to sea.

From a video I saw yesterday on this, the claim was made that each 'intrusion' is containing less magma than before. Over time, that would suggest that these small eruptions will whittle away over time. Though even the smallest eruption right in the centre of Grindavik would still have devastating consequences.
