Nailed on now to record the first 11c+ annual CET in the Hadley CET series.

A truly historic and incredible year for record warm temperatures in the uk, the highlight being the first recorded 40c+ back in July!

Yes, it has indeed been a remarkable year with temps so much higher than I ever thought I’d see in this country.  I found it quite scary at the time but pleased I experienced it.

This looks like going down to the wire and the winning post can't come soon enough for JM2005 (like the 1973 Grand National when Red Rum caught Crisp - see it on you tube)
JM2005 looked home and dry 10 days ago when the DEC CET was 0.4c. Now its 2.73c after 27 days.
An average of 8c over the next 4 days would take it to 3.41c for AP Snowman to win.

Good work Frank. Think I am going to finish agonisingly close behind though.

I’d be happy to finish in the middle of the table.  That’s where I usually end up. 😂

For me this has been a classic year for weather up there with 1995.

It had everything..

Severe droughtAn exceptionally hot August and exceptional hot days with new date records in JulyAn exceptionally mild drought busting autumn
And then to cap it all off, the longest and severest winter cold snap perhaps since Dec 2010.
The Jiries and richardabns of the board may disagree but for me that's as good as UK weather gets tbh from a pure watching perspective .
From a practical perspective of course I'd prefer a more boring and average 2023 as appreciate these extremes have caused anxiety and difficulty for many, myself included...

Looking at today's (very mild!) temps and with another mild night ahead, the final figure is probably going to be in the 3.3 to 3.5°C range depending on how slowly temps fall tonight.

So yes, down the wire on whether it's JMM2005 or AP that gets the win!

Looks like I'll be landing in 6th place, having only needed the CET to be a few tenths lower for a podium finish. Overall I'm very happy with how many of my estimates have fallen within 0.5°C of the actual this year. Those estimates were produced using a blend of meteorological analysis and 'winging it' whenever the signals were too vague.

Another year beckons - Happy New Year and good luck to all!

Main metoffice page still showing 30 Dec but data sheet now updated to 31st showing final Dec number as 3.4c.
I make this 3.42c to 2 decimals - would someone like to check this.
https://www.metoffice.gov.uk/hadobs/hadcet/data/cet_mean_2022.txt

This would make Lanky the monthly winner with a 3.5c prediction.

But what a sickener for Justin (JMM2005) who has led the annual competition most of the year until the final day only to lose out to the winner AP Snowman. Winning margin 0.03c with SSWD a further 0.01c behind in 3rd

I went for way too high with something like 5.0C

Looks like the year came in at 11.15c so smashed the record.

Comiserations to JMM2005. If confirmed I took the lead at the last second. Chuffed to to win it though 😁.
