A note for Jiries about the continuing need for lots of rain, at least in the south

Bewl Water reservoir at 43%, and others in Sussex similar

Ground water low and still descending; Worthing (scroll down) at drought level (yes, it will recover but winter rainfall is needed for that)

Already well over half the monthly average with a ludicrous 42.8mm following on from 96.8mm in October and 138.2mm in September

So 277.8mm for the vile autumn thus far. Pretty much a certaintly that 300mm will be exceeded for the 2nd autumn in succession

I understand your pain, though, as the SEPA gauges on this website in the Aberdeen area have only recorded around 10mm for November so far. Obviously you have a domesticated raincloud tethered to your location

Been raining here (albeit mostly light rain and drizzle yesterday, today has had more heavier interludes) since early hours of yesterday and still going.

Yesterday had 10mm for the day, today is currently on 14.8mm.

Rainfall total wise I'm on 102.3mm - 50+mm of that was from the other day. Wasn't sure if my gauge was accurate as a bit out of step with one a few miles to my North for that event but having had a wander round that day water was forcing itself up through the ground and a lot of the paths had been stripped of leaves and topsoil so assume I'd got some convective enhancement within the rain and got 'lucky'.

Means locally I've already had a wetter than average autumn.

National Drought Group forecasts drought may remain beyond spring 2023

"Projections suggest average rainfall over winter will not be enough to prevent drought conditions in some areas next year.

Average rainfall levels over winter will still not be sufficient to avoid impending drought or drought conditions next year, the National Drought Group has forecast."

"Many water companies have suggested impending drought or drought conditions will remain beyond spring in some areas– notably in parts of the South West, South East, East and Yorkshire and East Midlands - if rainfall is below average."

I thinks it's above average now, the amount of rain we've had recently

4 river flood warnings in mid Sussex and one for Isle of Wight https://www.floodalerts.com/

A dozen other flood warnings are coastal from the Channel to the Hebrides, depending on whether the forecast squall reinforces extreme high tides tonight.

53mm for the month here so far. Surprised it is not more actually, as local rivers eg the Loddon are already over the fields in places. And as I mentioned on the model thread the local Nov 5 bonfire was so sodden it failed to light!
