Cambridge and Heathrow both 39C on the 1250 METARs but Twitter rumours say Heathrow was 40.2C at 1250, which doesn't add up.

35.8C here, highest of the day. Meanwhile less than 200 miles west at my parents' house in Devon it is 20C and raining!

39.2c in Watford and still more hours of heat to come.

I never thought 40c would have been breached in my lifetime in the UK, I have been recording the weather data since 1982 and you can see the worrying warming trend!
