Indeed. Roughly 2nd July
Paul Simmons writing in The Times said that the first 40C run appeared on 30 June.
40.1C finally and now 39.7. Very strong hot winds which is great to keep clouds off. Time to see Yorkshire into the game now?

Still only one 40C METAR all day which was at Northolt.
Look at the East Midlands and S Yorks sites. Like Mo Farah just before the final lap. They let London run out ahead for the first 9,500 metres, tucked in towards the back of the pack. Then watch as they start to ease up through the field...
Just seen the huge smoke plume on our way home, from the "wild" fire that's started near the Bridge Crossing here in Dartford. Going for a walk soon to see if we can see more.

39c now at 185m elevation. I never thought I would see this
5-10 buildings were on fire. It spread from grassland. Spreading rapidly.
Yeh, but if you watch the vid you posted there's a bathtub outside the house - is it the kind of place where people leave their knackered white goods / landfill out in the garden
or maybe the grass fire caused an explosion...
Now 34°C here in Hawick which definitely would beat the Scottish record if that was to be officially confirmed, and it would a real shame if that was scuppered for no reason other than the sheer lack of official stations in this part of the world.
You have to be very pleased with that Jiries.
Heat still slowly building... 40.4c.

Well sky panned out and there were 6 fires in different locations across the thames estuary
Meanwhile here a mile from the SE coast its an incredible 36.2c and still edging up slowly. The furnace is still firing.
that fire looks like it has destroyed serval houses and is not under control
Even the river was on fire? Wow, that is hot.....
Not seen an official 40C for Cambridge yet, but judging by the local stations will get it once all is said and done.

This is the station that I use. It doesn't report, but I believe it is to Met O standard. Its about 4 miles away from me, and gives readings very close to the official ones. EG last time it recorded 38.8 vs the official 38.2, so not beyond the realms of possibility given the slight valley near the River Ouse.
