The North Yorkshire event was most likely a sonic boom, according to The York Press.

The most recent UK earthquake was at Achnamara, Argyll/Bute, with magnitude of 3.4; it was felt quite strongly locally.

Whatever the story - the quakes seem to keep on coming...
"Scotland has experienced its second earthquake in less than a week after the Highlands was hit by a tremor. The British Geological Survey (BGS) said a 2.2 magnitude earthquake was registered just outside Roybridge, near Spean Bridge, at 09:29 on Friday."

Aren't earthquakes normal for central & western Scotland (though usually small ones)? For example, Comrie area used to have frequent earthquake swarms in 18th & 19th centuries, I seem to recall.

Didn't feel anything here. Must be too far away.

I slept through the 2008 one so I have yet to experience what an earthquake feels like.

I experienced the 2008 earthquake. It was weird...I could actually hear it before I felt it. It was like a deep rumble that got closer.

It was quite amusing actually, was 19 at the time and dad came marching up the stairs asking what I was doing to vibrate the house...I had two huge floor standing speakers at the time so I guess he thought it was the bass from those!

The two I most remember are one in the late 1980's with I think Wrexham as the epicentre. Happened early'ish one morning when I was just getting up for school/work. The other was in the early 00's and hit Manchester where I was at work. A colleague put his hands over his head and we all took the p*ss.

Magnitude 6.1 quake in Afghanistan near Pakistan border; 280 deaths and counting. Afghanistan could do without this; it has enough problems already

Albeit not huge in the grand scheme of things, this is the second 5.4 eathquake to hit Texas in a month now, both being the equal third largest from what I can see in history, for the State, and in the same location...

Large Earthquake, 6.4, in northern California has killed 2 people this afternoon. Looking at the USGS website, there has been 50 aftershocks up to 4.4 from what I can see. Some pretty significant damage reported.

There has been a very large (magnitude 7.8) earthquake in the south of central Turkey overnight. Sadly given the intensity and location I suspect many people will have been killed along with significant damage caused to buildings.

More details of the earthquake are available here https://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/eventpage/us6000jllz/

Another earthquake of 7.5 has been recorded further north on Central Turkey. This was even shallower at 10km. Extremely worrying.

It is awful to read the reports today from these earthquakes. We are very fortunate to here to live in such a comparatively calm part of the world. My thoughts are with those affected by the destruction 😢 The scale of this disaster is incredible.

Awful scenes. If there can be any slight glimmer of anything good out of this it’ll be the fall of Erdogan

I do wonder how much corner cutting and shoddy construction has contributed to the death toll.
At least it will be mild!
