Tsunami possibilities were much overstated

Not by the USGS/NOAA they weren’t. Their analysis was, as usual, spot on. Small tsunamis (up to 0.7ft I think) were observed, but aafter the initial very large quake was analysed no significant tsunamis were predicted.

Until that analysis takes place the risk must be stated especially with a quake of that magnitude.

There has been a magnitude 7.2 quake in Haiti this afternoon, hopefully it is not nearly as serious as the 2010 quake (as it is further away from the capital), but I worry about the location and magnitude given the infrastructure of the country.

The situation is likely to be worsened by the arrival of TS Grace in a couple of days' time, though current forecast is for Grace, which has a limited circulation, to dump most of its rain on the N side of Haiti, away from the earthquake-affected zone.

Unfortunately Grace diverged from this prediction and has been drenching the earthquake zone

Death toll 2000 and rising - Haiti does seem to attract natural disasters.

And a magnitude 6.4 a short while ago.

This site shows the location and magnitude of quakes.   Quite a few lately - but I don't know if this is within the normal range?

You can zoom in on the map and see the exact point of each.  Quite a cluster in the centre of the island if you select '4+'

Yes, although I think some of those will be aftershocks from last month’s large quake. However  it does strike me as an anomalously high number of quakes. Having two that magnitude in a few weeks seems quite unusual but may be nothing more than coincidence (for want of a more scientific term!).

Something just happened in North Yorkshire, it was quite loud here at 15:48 - I thought it was a sonic boom except it was a low frequency yet sharp boom then rumbled on for several seconds.
I didn't feel serious shaking like previous quake in early 2000s but things did vibrate.

Perhaps unsurprisingly I witnessed the same, just as you describe. It was fascinating to see every pheasant in the dale take off at the same time.

The North Yorkshire event was most likely a sonic boom, according to The York Press.

The most recent UK earthquake was at Achnamara, Argyll/Bute, with magnitude of 3.4; it was felt quite strongly locally.

Whatever the story - the quakes seem to keep on coming...
"Scotland has experienced its second earthquake in less than a week after the Highlands was hit by a tremor. The British Geological Survey (BGS) said a 2.2 magnitude earthquake was registered just outside Roybridge, near Spean Bridge, at 09:29 on Friday."
