Can't complain at my 4.82 although I did get the feeling that the mild conditions at the end of the month weren't quite as mild as they were initially forecast so at one point I thought I was in with a shout of actually winning myself.

Thanks guys. I was strangely confident about January. But I feel it’s back to ‘f$$k up February’ for me. The year usually starts well for me and then February trashes things. I’m not feeling the love for this month these days

By my own unofficial reckoning, that puts Whether Idle on top and the 1991-2020 average in 2nd place .

Saint Snow in 3rd, The Professional in 4th but only by 0.01°C and then it's just 0.02°C to Sevendust in 5th - it's a tight start!

I must admit, I thought it would be closer to my estimate after adjustments - those frosty nights really left their mark . Still, can't complain at being 0.25°C out really.

With an error of 0.08c, I've got the same error as '1991-2020 average', thank you very much!!! So I'm claiming 'joint second'

Was warmer than the CET here which is a sure sign of a truly terrible abomination of a winter

4.8C which makes it the 8th mildest in the past 150 years after 1989, 1898, 1916, 1932, 2020, 2007 and 1923

The sickest joke of all was Heathrow recording a lower temperature than many parts of the Highlands including Aviemore

Well played Whether Idle. Just don't be silly and predict your usual cold February.

Mean here was 5.5.

This one degree deviation from the CET is what would normally be expected in January for this location.

Is it safe to say that it will just continue to get warmer with eventually no cold outbreaks over winter and heatwaves from early summer onwards?

The summers in recent years have not seen prolonged hot spells as of yet - there is minor variation between seasons, but still, based on my observations (last 12 years), more chance of colder conditions in Marck.

I would welcome comments on this and find out what other people think.  I look across the Atlantic and get excited by the freak snowfall events but know that these could result from higher temperatures than those historically recorded.

1st February 2019? Over 8 inches of snow in a freak event that caused me to get trapped at work in Basingstoke
