Well remembered. The good old days (when we used to get snow)

now sadly defunct. Well the view is still there but the webcam hasn't been for several years. I’m not sure what died first the King’s College University of Aberdeen webcam or the concept of a snowy winter in Aberdeen.

I’m less than a mile away and could set one up for my garden but drizzle has only a limited appeal.

I wonder what has caused this Doc?

Maybe we could have a thread called “the death of the mid winter northerly?” As to me that is what is causing the problem. It’s probably too simplistic to say it’s because of being on the east coast + climate change, even if that’s a factor it’s likely to be far more complicated than that.

Either way, it’s annoying.

I would laugh if we get a deep cold easterly in the next month and you get snowed in. 😂

Believe it or not! Back in the Days Richard used to even ☺ sometimes. Remember him doing a live stream once in one of the many northerly snow events from the early mid 00s.

My head is firmly fixed on spring now, I just want winter to sod off back to where it came from. Hopefully the models will start showing something a bit warmer in the near future...

Well highs of 12C with a largely sunny day after an overnight low of 9C is in the offering for us tomorrow. This will feel rather spring like in the late January sun.

Crazy to think some parts of the country are experiencing snow and here in Exeter as I type it's 15.0c. Just an incredible temperature contrast really. Today's maximum temperature does beat last years daytime max for anytime that winter of 14.5c - Perhaps today is the highest winter daytime max I have recorded since February 2019. - Turned all heating off - nice to have warmth but i fear we would be freezing in spring!

It's also 12-13c in the midlands - Crazy to think in less than 48 hours they could have a daytime max of 1c with heavy snow.

Yes it's been well forecast by the models this extreme mildness. GFS had 15c forecast for today about 9 days ago pretty remarkable.  The date record is 15.4c so could go.

This is what bugs me, North Easterly for the UK - snow for the East coast and far SE only  -

North Easterly for Spain - huge amounts of snow well inland to Central Spain -

From December 27th 2020, zonality will be banned from mixing with the UK. We appreciate that this may come as a shock to younger people and old Uncle Barty. This ban will last for a minimum of ten days.

What is this mythical “snow for the east coast” phenomenon of which you speak?

Beyond comprehension that such a ridiculously awful winter, that has started so terribly, can keep getting worse and worse but that is exactly what's happening.

4 weeks ago, amongst the cold rain, we got 3cm of snow which melted within 36 hours

3 weeks ago, amongst the cold rain, it was 2cm which was also gone within 36 hours

2 weeks, amongst the cold rain, ago a trace amount which barely lasted 24 hours

Last week sleet and wet snow mixed in with the cold rain

This week just cold rain with not a hint of anything wintry

Totally without precedent to have a month as cold as this produce relentless rain and barely a hint of wintry weather. It's ludicrous and defies rational explanation. There is no other winter from the annals of history that has been so vile as this
