Just been looking on the Facebook group for Matlock where I grew up and there is a  collection of photos taken this morning during the heavy snow showers. Reports are saying about 7cm fell in 2 hours.

That’s one big thing I miss about not living there now..The winters.

I think Buxton had 15cm or so. I do want to live there some day.

I don't actually mind the NW getting snow but it's when places further south than here get it I find incredibly annoying.  Could well be the case tmrw.

Cheers,  but think it's very much an outside bet for here tmrw.  My punt for the sweet spot would be the Cotswolds.

Snow falling and settling in N.Essex - now, apparently. Not here in the South of the County though. Wouldn't want to spoil our three year record of no snow lying!

We were looking at properties in Buxton in February 2010 but for reasons at the time decided not to move. I do firmly believe we’ll be back around that area one day. By the time I actually do it I’ll be too old to enjoy snow.

Just had a lovely little RAIN shower pass through, 2.0 / 0.7C was as cold as it got. Bodes well for tomorrow, not...

(I've never known such a good winter for cold rain, it's been amazing for that).

The BBC automated app has us dry now until Tuesday, when the drizzle/rain starts and barely stops until Sunday.

Just what we need....

I reckon it has been the snowiest last 4 weeks here (Christmas Day 2020 -today) since probably mid December 2009-mid January 2010)

Somebody used to post regularly from Buxton. Can anybody remember who that was?

Very very poor effort here from a promising window of opportunity. The cold air was delayed and the overnight showers amounted to a dusting on car windscreens.

Not to worry as the radar looked like we would get a decent fall this morning. The first batch that came through lasted an hour but only really got heavy for a few minutes at a time. We didn’t even manage a full covering.

A second shower a few hours later produced some amazing snow flakes promising to almost cover the ground. It was only a brief affair.

After that a quick thaw set in below 170m with the time rising to 1.5C. Above 200m the trees were still covered in snow. Above 250m there was around an inch of snow lying.

Great to see lower parts of the region get a couple of CM’s though.

To top it all off tomorrow’s snow will miss here. Glossop will probably get a dumping on Tuesday when I’m not there!

My wait for another classic NWLy continues.

Similar story here. All a bit rubbish, really.

In fact, every snowfall since the March 13 snowfest has been pretty pathetic. There's been quite a few, but a max 3cm.

Sick of it. These mini-falls cause no disruption, are mostly gone from the roads within hours, and the rest follows soon after (the 28th December fall was unusual in freezing then staying on the ground for over a week, but disappointingly patchy)

A lot riding on the snow tomorrow from a southern continent POV. I wonder if this place will be very busy this time tomorrow!

This winter has been great where I am. A few separate snow events, one particularly decent one from boxing day with a few top ups and snow lying for over 2 weeks. We also had over 2 weeks of constant ice days beginning Christmas Eve.

We even got a little bit of freezing fog, which I haven't seen for a long time.

It's been the kind of winter I would have bitten anyone's hand off for.

Plenty of cold still to come too by the looks of it.

Struggling to remember March 2013. I think it was bitterly cold but bone dry here. The winter of the dreaded snow shadow.

Same in Cornwall cold but bone dry. If the winds are between North and East we are cold but the landmass stops any snow getting here.

I think it was. Manchester city centre had no snow, and even a colleague who lives in Flixton had just flurries. It was an ENE flow and we got about 12cm level, plus some amazing drifts.

Below pic shows a weird, frozen wave-type drift, somehow caused by the snow coming through the hedge (a large farmer's field is behind). The land my eldest is stood on is a flat grass verge alongside a road.

We benefited from large area of PPN (iirc from a frontal feature) moving WSW'wards, that reorganised over here as it approached the North East Wales mountains. Areas around Wrexham, Mold, Llangollen had 30-40cm of level snow.

I feel your frustration.

It's -2c here in Exeter already with a harsh frost on cars/roofs.
