Updated:

Confidence is low during this time but more unsettled conditions may continue to affect at least southern and central parts of the UK, with drier and colder weather being retrained in the north. Whilst generally remaining colder than average some milder interludes are possible in the south. Later in the month an increased chance of colder conditions returning nationwide. Throughout there is a risk of snowfall and other wintry hazards.

An interest update and plenty of interest going forward

Sleet* not sleep. So unprofessional how such a high profile organisation can make such poor spelling mistakes and it isn't the first time either. Also they said "Elsewhere is likely?" - They mean *Elsewhere it is* likely.

I suppose it's media as it was on the TV. Did anybody see the documentary last night about the life of Jimmy Greaves? The number of different clips in the sixties (not'63) and seventies with snow was amazing. Not even the "special years". Just goes to show.......

Yes, anyone else find it very annoying ?

From December 27th 2020, zonality will be banned from mixing with the UK. We appreciate that this may come as a shock to younger people and old Uncle Barty. This ban will last for a minimum of ten days.

Perhaps it is to protect themselves from being sued when somebody slips on a frozen puddle?

Rain at 0.5C is a uniquely UK wintry hazard.

Crap forecast on look east. Temps of 5C-6C all week with rain showers (perhaps a little sleet). Couldn't get any worse!

Its never looked like being much different to my eyes, although the slightly colder 850s may permit a bit more sleet.

I notice Helen W of the BBC didn't show the week ahead forecast 21:55 and or go into detail and show the jet stream and synoptic chart like Ben Rich did yesterday - they use to show the weather for week ahead every night 21:55, also she said 'Good Afternoon' so this was pre recorded at lunchtime! :/

It has happened frequently in recent months that the 21:55 forecast has not been a week ahead forecast. This is completely unacceptable. A central aim of the BBC is supposed to be informing the public.

Who takes the decision to cancel the week ahead forecasts in the 21:55 slot?

Friday 8 Jan - Sunday 17 Jan

Some outbreaks of rain, sleet and snow are likely across central areas initially, with wintry showers also feeding in from the North Sea. Through Friday precipitation will be tending to decay in both of these regions, with cold, fine and dry conditions becoming more widespread. Over the weekend conditions across the country are likely to turn more unsettled with cloud and patchy rain spreading east and temperatures recovering to near average for many, by this time the risk of sleet and snow will most likely become confined to the north of the country. Through the following week rather cold conditions are most likely to re-establish nationwide, with northern and western areas continuing to see frosts.

Saturday 16 Jan - Saturday 30 Jan
