Looks like they were! I admin I was *very* sceptical, but it's happened all right. It's still sleet here, but more snow than rain. 1.6 / 0.9, so it's what I'd usually consider borderline for snow.

No such problems over the hills though and by all accounts it's a bit of a nightmare out there across the central belt of Kent! Accidents on the M2 and M20 and - looking at the traffic camera - quite widespread snow on the ground in higher areas.

(The MetO text forecast did mention snow, briefly, over higher ground, but interestingly the automated forecast didn't have anything even at altitude, just rain. It's flipped overnight though!)

Hah! Yes, I think that caught the forecasting team out (at the MetO) - snow was more widespread and to lower levels than was originally thought.

It's back to rain here, incidentally... 2.1 / 1.5, it started going up once the middle of the core of the rain/snow band went over.

If I wasn't an early bird (and reading reports on here) I'd have missed it all!

Just need the continent to get much colder for the next low pressure coming down fromvthe NW next week.

The snow / sleet fell for half an hour between 4am and 4.30. First time I have recorded (since 80s) snow falling at 3.4c and DP of 1.1c

Safe to put my uneaten hat back in its box. Looks like a very wet day to come up here (with a good fall of snow on the hills).

Not quite the same cover on roads Doc! (And for comedy value we’ve now lost power!)
