The papers split their headlines between concerns over the safety of children when schools return and the rush to verify and mass produce an effective vaccine.......

If we're going to have 30 million vaccine shots in the UK by September why rush to open the schools now?

Of course we all hope there will be a vaccine and it’s looking positive on that front but it could take longer and we have to make provision for if it doesn’t happen soon. We can’t hold everything up on ‘ifs’ and ‘maybes’.  We need a plan B.

My view on schools re-opening is to plan as proposed in full consultation with teaching staff, but wait and see whether it’s safe enough to do so when the time comes.

A very good section on BBC R4 just now on the science side of Covid-19. An interview with a professor from Imperial College who said she was confident some of the candidates worldwide would produce viable vaccines - but that early 2021 was a more realistic timescale. She emphasised the challenge of gearing up for billions of shots needed worldwide and the need to ensure global cooperation.

The Times has a piece about the potential vitamin D link. Good excuse to relocate to my garden this morning.
