Reading a bit more about the feedback the Chinese have given to the Italians: in Wuhan the authorities managed to break the intra-family chains of transmissions. They basically separated (forcibly or not) family members apart. This is easier said than done in countries like Italy or Spain, but it may have to come to this.
Not necessarily - people appear to be sticking to the script by and large. I have not seen my aged mother for nearly four weeks now, I have twin sisters who were 70 last week and all I could do was to send them cards (my one sister has moved in with my mother to help her through the isolation period), our elder daughter was 40 on 18th March, but we could not go and see her as planned, our other daughter also had her birthday last week and we spoke on the phone - she was supposed to be home for her birthday, plus we have not seen our grandchildren for about four weeks now.
There is next to no traffic on the road and we have not spoken to our neighbours for over two weeks. Everyone is hunkering down.
It might be harder for people who live in cities, but round here the isolation is complete.
