There is nothing more positive than correcting previous errors and if we start this back slapping and self praising in fear of appearing un-patriotic we will end up like the US. Praise where praise is due and criticism where it is as well.

Yeah that's true, provided that you remember that some of the targets for criticism may be doing their damndest at this moment to make things better, and so long as you reflect that while taking time to criticise you might have used that time for something that actually makes a difference, and if you don't know what that is, then offering some praise or encouragement can actually make a difference.

Yes I agree. What am I saying about the stats is that they are not accurate enough to be making the fine judgements on that some people are on here in either direction.

France

  • 4,376 new cases

  • 418 new deaths

A record number for deaths whilst new cases increase by 1,777

4,611 remains the French record for daily cases.

Given that most of the contributors to this forum know more than the Government, their advisers,  and the world's best medical experts, what do you expect?

Completely with you on this one Caz; come on, people, we're all p*** off with how our lives are upended and how noone quite knows how to deal with this. I'm still hopeful that the subway Blitz attitude of Brits is still in there, teeth gritted and all, heads down, who can we help? Lots of it about; if yer ain't got a penny, say something good.

You really are just thinking of your self if you preach doom and gloom.

If that's supposed to be aimed at me then it probably says more about you than it does about me.

Fair point but if he wants vulnerable groups (not just Over-70s) to remain isolated for 12 weeks that can only be because the risk is expected to last for at least that long. I wouldn't interpret the 'three weeks and then review' as any indication of a relaxation at that point. That's only two weeks away; it's just not going to happen that fast IMHO.

Exactly! Focus on the broader trend; and try not to confuse data for England with data for the UK.....

As the saying goes, before you criticise someone walk a mile in their shoes (because then you are a mile away and have their shoes).

Not necessarily - people appear to be sticking to the script by and large. I have not seen my aged mother for nearly four weeks now, I have twin sisters who were 70 last week and all I could do was to send them cards (my one sister has moved in with my mother to help her through the isolation period), our elder daughter was 40 on 18th March, but we could not go and see her as planned, our other daughter also had her birthday last week and we spoke on the phone  - she was supposed to be home for her birthday, plus we have not seen our grandchildren for about four weeks now.

There is next to no traffic on the road and we have not spoken to our neighbours for over two weeks. Everyone is hunkering down.

It might be harder for people who live in cities, but round here the isolation is complete.

Indeed, but the comment was for Italy & Spain, where different generations of the same family often live very close to each other, occasionally even in the same block of flats. I still think this is a factor behind our high number in the West Midlands.

There have been a few snippity remarks today around people criticising too much.

I applaud the governement for what they have achieved with nightingale. It’s a well done from me.

However, we can’t let this achievement shy away from the fact that NHS staff still don’t have adequate PPE and our testing remains woeful.

Equally, we still see different figures published on the tracker and official PHE figure. These are the basics that we need to get right.
