Rather incredibly, the temperature at Edinburgh Gogarbank has just shot up to 30.9°C as at 3pm this afternoon which has now set a new all time record for the highest temperature which I have ever recorded at any of my three local stations since I first joined TWO back in the summer of 2016.That might even also be a new all time record for that particular station and has come as a result of an increase in the temperature by a massive 4.8°C in just the last hour.Who knows where this might end up going next.
Do you reckon somewhere will beat the 32.9 Scottish record?
I went up allermuir hill at lunchtime and am now paying the price. Still trying to rehydrate :-p
Leeds uni just hit 35C. The highest of the day
Sun back out now, hopefully one last push.
I just hit 34.0c when the sun came out (back in cloud now)
Car thermometer which is usually pretty accurate was 35.5c around Kirkstall in the valley bottom.
Hottest day ever I would say here.
Cambridge airport now down to 36C
I think its over.

By my reckoning, Bathgate might have that with its value of 33.3°C if that is verified. I did notice on the Met Office Observations site that a quite a number of places here in Scotland were recording either 32°C or 33°C with even Dingwall in the north of Scotland just about reaching 30°C, so I think that our own Scottish record has probably gone which will be quite remarkable if indeed, that turns out to not quite the case for the UK as a whole.
How confident are you about the accuracy?
Manchester Uni also reporting 35.1C, Airport still 33C. Not an unreasonable difference from the outer suburbs to the city centre but I still suspect it's over-egging it.
Cambridge Airport has eased back to 36C now that the cloud has rolled in.
Before that it was going for it.
An interesting but frustrating experience.
I could still scramble eggs on my patio (if I were so inclined )
Cambridge airport now down to 36CI think its over.
Yep sadly cloud spoiled any chance @ the 11th hour
Looks like close but no cigar. 40c was there for the taking today if it stayed clear. Disappointing
Was it that's madness if so, hopefully we've moved on a bit now
I'd heard Brogdale officially reported once a month, but the person who checks each day had spotted the record and reported it early.
The delay would have been due to the numerous checks to make sure the site complied in every way with the guidelines, as a new record demands absolute certainty. It's why I grinned a bit when people whinged it was a poor site... no, it's not, otherwise it wouldn't have passed those tests, nor would it be kept on by the Met Office!

Probably a bit over yeh. I think all ammeteur weather stations will be. Linton on ouse did get to 34.8C at least and probably a bit higher than that so it isn't outlandishly high by any means.
I am still curious as to whether Bedford might have beaten it if the weather station hadn't broken. It was dead level with Cambridge before it stopped reporting. Monk's Wood is also out of order and has been for a couple of days now. Should have sent someone out to fix it on a day like today!
Did it stop recording or stop reporting? Potentially a world of difference.

To be fair the Met Office do acknowledge that it's not a Class 1 site.
Re Bedford I wonder if it was just a transmission problem, in which case the temperature data might still be retrievable if anyone from the Met Office cares to look. Would be pretty bad if a potential record goes begging due to equipment failure.
All I know is that the SYNOPS were missing temperature data from 2pm onwards: https://www.ogimet.com/display_synops2.php?lang=en&tipo=ALL&ord=REV&nil=SI&fmt=html&anof=2019&mesf=07&dayf=25&horaf=15&minf=45&ano=2019&mes=07&day=24&hora=15&min=45&lugar=03560
It was still sending data but the temperature part was missing. Wind data is there.
If Linton on Ouse reached 35C then no reason why the centre of Leeds didn’t too. I think it’s accurate and is what was forecast.
Also, reliable amateur stations in suburban Leeds have reached close to 35C.

34.5C with a 21.3C dewpoint! Must be one of the highest feels like temperatures ever seen in the UK, if not the highest
I reckon it would be similar to what Leeds Weather Centre would have recorded had it still been operational. Some might say that was artificially high but it was an official station. Difference between Leeds Bradford Airport (210m) and Leeds Weather Centre used to be 2-4c, depending on the conditions, I would say 3c difference on a day like today. LBA reached 32c today.
At least 34.3c at Ryhill and 34.8c at Linton on ooze (hourly readings) which are rural. So 35c has to be plausible, Leeds WC would normally outperform other local official stations.

Yes especially Ryhill which is much higher in elevation.
