Brilliant light show over Norfolk from about 0330. Still going now, hardly any rain so was able to be outside for most of it. Shame it was getting light really, as it took the edge off!

Brilliant light show still going on here in Edinburgh, though only with the odd loud clap of thunder at times.

Heavy and at times, torrential rain is now falling here and the downdrafts from these storms has even caused the wind to pick up by quite a bit at times.

Storm here (Otley, West Yorks) between 2-4 am. Mostly cloud-cloud crawling across the sky from one horizon to the other. Saw two close cloud to ground strikes onto Otley Chevin. Short bursts of intense rainfall

And into round 2! Not as effective, with it being light, but rain a lot more intense this time.

Only a bit of rain here. Nevermind, can I have my sunshine back now please?

Well that was an entertaining night. I’m guessing I’m not the only one this morning short on sleep. The storms only clipped here at about 1am but whilst short lived and not too noisy, the lightning was spectacular. Such a warm night though! Still about 26c when the storm hit. Clear blue skies to greet the new day this morning.

Similar story here - that line of storms rolled in at 3am with frequent lightning and heavy rain. Good to see many areas enjoying a show.

Yes it was spectacular. What actually woke me up was the strong gusty wind blowing through the bedroom window. We did have heavy rain but only for a short period. Looked at the raintoday radar at the time and what appeared to happen was a new storm formed on the SE edge of the main storm that moved across the rest of the UK. It seemed to form into a squall line across East anglia, which makes sense as the wind really did pick up for a short time.

So good that so much of the country experienced that squall line/thunderstorm last night.

In Manchester, just like everywhere else, it was very impressive with plenty of lightning - also some very strong winds and torrential horizontal rain.

Bit of a moan I know but still waiting for the first thunderstorm of the year in this part of Dorset. The Portland Bill deflector seemed to do whatever it took to keep it that way last night. Not even a drop of rain.

Didnt end up being the crazy thunderstorm night i thought we might have had. But by far the best thunderstorm ive seen in recent memory, if since i was a kid.

we had 6mm of rain, which was nice amount for the garden. Lots of flashes, not much thunder. At one point i was seeing approx 1-2 flashes every 5 seconds. Was expecting to hear some loud cracks, but the storm dissipated as quickly as it arrived.

a decent 6/10 for me.

The thunderstorm event which I reported here in the early hours of this morning was only the first such event of this month here in Edinburgh, but was also the third such event of this summer in this part of the world.

On that note, I can have no complaints and for once, the yellow warning which the Met Office had put out for that, was actually very well justified as far as this part of the world is concerned at least.

In terms of the lightning display, this was the best one out of the three, although it produced the least amount of rain overall with a total of just 5.8 mm of rain at Edinburgh Gogarbank along with 6.8 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

It was the best thunderstorm I`ve seen in recent memory as well.

Almost constant lightning, thunder and torrential rain from 2am to 2.30am aproximately. It was a fantastic light show. There was more heavy rain after 3am, but no thunder or lightning with that.

Checked the rain gauge this morning, 15.5mm.

7.4 mm of rain for us on the other side of the Mersey.

Was woken at 1.13 by the distant rumbles and intermittent flashes. Looked at Lightning.org and went into full under the covers panic mode (I have a weird love/hate storm thing).

In the end, as you'll see if you watch Kev's timelapse from last night, the main storm slipped to the east and I could let go of the blanket - which was a good job because I was actually melting. I'm expecting Saint to come along to report a sleepless night.

So an hour of gentle storm action and a fair amount of rain.

We had lots of thunder. Started hearing distant rumbling about 1am, then 20 mins later or so, it just erupted nearby. Not as frequent as some experienced, but very loud thunder (2-5 second gaps between flash & bang).

The dog (coming up to 12 months old) didn't know what to make of it at first. She would growl when the distant rumbles started and gave a couple of barks, but when the louder stuff came, her ears went down and she shut up.

Had a similar night Saint.

I waited up til 1am, then seeing the lightning strike radars at that point being mostly around bristol and Welsh borders, I decided to go to bed, as i felt it would be a while before the action arrived... only took another 15 minutes, and quickly turned into war of the worlds... flashes every few seconds.

Crazy how it developed so quickly.

Dog didnt like it and hid under tables etc.
