Probably says more about your houses than the heatwave although unusually it is actually cooler at 28.5C in our bedroom than outside 31.9C. The only difference is outside will drop much more quickly than inside!

Still 39C at 7.30pm in Tours in the Loire. Looks like parts of Poitou and lower Loire could have record breaking minima tonight.

Yep, 32C in the garden, 21C in the basement kitchen, 22C on upper ground floor and 23C on first floor. Thick walls, little roof space, no south facing windows and lots of mature trees around.

By the way the French authorities had some enterprising advice for coping with the heatwave this week: open windows at night with soaking wet curtains, rewetted as required. Neat idea.

A great way to get some mould going! (It is, of course, a variant on a "swamp cooler". They work well in desert areas, less-so in humid countries like ours.)

As for house temperatures, it's 34.4C in the east-facing bedroom upstairs, 29C in my west-facing bedroom (with the portable air-con going for the past 2 hours - yes, it's struggling!) and 25C in the east-facing kitchen, which is the coldest room in the house usually.

It's 27C outside and completely calm.

A hot, sticky and noisy night beckons. Noisy as I plan to leave the air-con running, but it's only a couple of feet away from the bed so earplugs are a must!

Very unusual. 28.9c at 20.25 hrs.

Sun too low in the sky now and away from the sensor to make the reading questionable.

Yes, it’s 28.1c here too and not looking great for sleeping.  We’ve managed to keep the house cooler than it is outside so far but there’s no breeze now at all!

High was just over 30*C here today, which happens to be a date record for the 21st Century. How ironic within such a cool month overall.

It was still in the mid-20s as of 8:30 pm with almost no wind, but now there's a light westerly and the temp's started sliding quite fast; almost down to 21*C now. Sadly, the dew points are still in the high teens, so it's become very humid (75% RH). Still getting a bit of useful cooling via the open windows though!

There may be some hope for you:

8.30pm temp here was 25.3c rising again after a heavy shower.

9.30pm temp 19.4c with a brisk wind picking up.  Lovely and cool outside now .

It will hopefully reach you later...

Definite cooler breeze picked up now. Sitting in the garden and listening to the local music festival in the distance. Some altocumulus came over from the west an hour ago to give a pretty sunset, a sign of the cold front sweeping in.
