That reminds me of last year when he kept on going on about a weekend curse even though he later admitted in a more recent post that last summer's weekend weather was actually quite decent.

Because of that, I wouldn't be surprised if he still ends up complaining anyway about not getting a temperature above 20°C regardless of whether that actually happens between now and the end of this month, or not.

The weekends in the latter part of summer 2018 were not decent. From the end of July we endured a run of horrific washout horrors whereas the weekday weather on the whole was fairly decent so a stark example of the Weekend Curse in action.

Low and behold it is striking again as our warmest day of the year has been ruined by awful weather. Completely clouded over and now started raining Also wind has picked up and temperature in freefall after getting nowhere near 25C. This is just unreal and like nothing we ever got on the warmest days in the past but happens time after time these days which is why we now never see the high temperatures we used to get

It is brightening up here again after the spots of rain cleared and is still 22.6°C. I expect that to rise.

As I put my sun-hat on this morning before going out in the garden, I was reminded of the old song: "The Sun has got his hat on, Hip Hip Hip Hooray!" (There's a recording on Youtube by Ambrose and his orchestra from the 1930s if you don't know it.)

I'm glad this is going to be a short heatwave.  If it went on much longer I would definitely be moaning about the heat.

Pollen levels seem to have gone through the roof this summer, and particularly during this current spell, and with no real rainfall in sight on the models to dampen them down a little, looks like I will be suffering for another while yet. Sick to bloody death of it.

It was quite pleasant indoors here until the middle of the afternoon at which time my 9" solid brick walls heated through. Now they will continue to radiate heat through the night like a storage radiator. Thank goodness for electric fans- it must have been hell in the pre-electric era if you couldn't afford a punkah wallah.

Oddly enough, I think you described it perfectly!  Useless!  There’s not much you can do in heat like this and not much you feel like doing either!  I used to long for days like this but I grew up!

Yup, useless indeed - a good day to just slob around indoors. (There are plenty of yells and screams from next door though, as they've had their kids in the garden all afternoon. Luckily headphones help with that one!)

It's days like this where portable air-con units come into their own. For those of us in the south who dislike heat, they're a godsend, albeit the price of them has rocketed these past few years.

I like this weather less and less as I get older and I'm only 32. I used to love hot weather but now I just can't be bothered. All it does is slow me down! With a 3 year old too, all I've done is tell him off all day because we are all grumpy in equal measures. I had to mow my grass before a BBQ and it was such an effort.

I rather enjoyed today. Yes 34C is a bit physically uncomfortable but it’s statistically exciting. And it means it’s actually possible to sit outside after sunset as I’m doing now without having to don a sweater.

Well I thought today was lovely - just reached 30C but didn’t feel too hot. Didn’t do much but then not much needed doing! My friend brought me back two bottles of rosé from France so much of the afternoon was spent enjoying that. 😄

Still 24 c at 11 pm at this end. I think it's going to get messy in the small hours courtesy of that night club close by. Might wake up to flashing in the night . . . of the emergency vehicles variety.

Judging by the amount of windows thrown wide open along my road people are really feeling the heat... but as there's no wind, it won't be doing much.

My bedroom windows were firmly closed, of course. I managed to get the temperature down to 21C in there by the end of the night and had a pretty good night's sleep, all things considered. Opening the door to the rest of the house, though, was like stepping into a sauna by comparison: it's still 18C with a 17C dewpoint outside, after all.

EDIT: The wind has finally picked up from the west. And so it's over - I hate hot weather, but I can't complain too much about a 1-day wonder!

It’s not limited to being just an age thing then!!

I loved hot days when my kids were young, playing in the garden, splashing in the pool, getting the gazebo up for shade, cooking and eating outdoors etc.  They’re in their 30’s now and they love the heat just as much as ever.  I like it when I’m on holiday but these days, not when I’m at home and I don’t know when I stopped loving it!

I agree, compensation for the discomfort is sitting outside into the evening, as is the statistical side of it.

I thoroughly enjoyed yesterday.  A fantastic 90F, with unbroken sunshine.  Wonderful see to see all 3 boys of mine splashing in the pool and then to be-able to enjoy a kayak trip around the rocks afoot the White Cliffs of Dover without worrying about being chilly.  Then topped off with a Mediterranean style evening beer or three on the balcony, watching the flag on Dover castle veer southward.  Bloomin' marvellous.

Not for me the tiresome, hackneyed whingeing about the weather.
