Be surprised if GFSP goes in this month. See my post from yesterday for the reasons. Regardless, GFSP6z continues with the mixed picture.

6z Para goes full on January 1795 again late on.  Nice consistent signal

The here and now and to my untrained things still look too fragile on either side. There's no overwhelming feature modelled giving any confidence to any outcome.

FI charts from the 06z ensembles. Some have BLOCK over Scandinavia or try to build it where as some have block over Greenland! They look more blocked with a few bringing in an easterly too...? Can only be upgrades from now on:

Snow event for the SW?

Another snow potential for the south?

Proper Northern Blocking setting up>?

Yes I agree with this, I think those of us in the south might have to put up with a pretty miserable week or two of cold rain with maybe the odd surprise snowfall, but if the high pressure over the pole can nudge down this way a little bit (hints at the end of the GFSP 0z and op 6z) then fun and games could ensue from the northeast. Just need a fast forward button now, I'm getting impatient!

Quite extraordinary differences in conditions over a few miles due to the UHI effect.

300 hrs if only? This could be a very snowy southern half of the UK:

Temps at or just above Freezing and then dropping below freezing!?

6Z ensemble mean by 384 hours looks fairly decent. The actual range of options is vast though. P13, 16, 17 and 20 are fun.

Having said that, the ensemble pack for London looks tighter than we have seen for a while.

Does feel we are on the cusp of a memorable spell of weather - some will be lucky and others 50 miles away will get cold rain - recipe for large snowfall totals. Anyone thinks it’s boring suggest a new hobby

Snow rows across the country. pretty impressive these types of figures haven't been seen since March 18. It will be more marginal but somewhere could get a lot of snow.

It’s actually looking more likely than any time in the last 2 weeks we’ll see a half decent cold spell end of Jan. And more importantly a reminder that timescales have not changed.

Still 8 to 10 days away from onset of much colder pattern developing and for many possibly quite snowy to. Detail is still sketchy with gfs not knowing which high will be the dominant player, the Arctic or the Siberian one (or both of course). Should expect synoptics will become clearer over the next couple of days.

Hoping for some better clarity as to the way forward starts this afternoon.
