37.6 at 4:35 with a max recorded of 37.8C. That would be officially 100F if confirmed. (37.8C = 100.04F)

That's a 1.5C rise in 10 minutes. Could inflow to the storms to the west have that effect somehow? Or is it dodgy data?

Not sure what is going on at Tibenham... I'm 10 miles NE from there on the outskirts of Norwich (www.norwichweather.co.uk) and max today is 35.4C. It been within 34-35.4C since 13:30 so pretty consistent (don't generally have any issues with overexposure - VP2 well vented). Judging by the uppers of around 18C and the +17C rule of thumb under perfect conditions (which we've had), 35C seems reasonable.

Just clouded over so that it is for the day - still only the 3rd time since at lest 1900 Norwich has reaches 35C... Roll on next week ;-))

Some local effect? I’m sure Gravesend has rocketed something like 3C in a short space of time in the past?

Well they were  matching exactly, and it would be pretty weird for a little rural airfield to have two separate fully functioning weather stations, wouldn't it? The Met Office network isn't all run by the Met Office AFAIK - they do inspect the sites but many of them are privately run.

If official then that is a new July record.

Quite a freakish rise. Large pic: https://i.imgur.com/wyajQTw.png

I am sure that if this is the official site there will be an investigation. It's dropped back to 36.9C but the heat spike has lasted over a few readings not just one isolated spike, so it likely isn't a data problem.

23c earlier then a shower around 2-3pm - now a comfortable 21c - How it should be! :)

We are some 10c cooler out west. Watch out those of you in EA and the SE - this cooler showery weather is heading your way!

Finally I can feel some fresher air coming in the house with window open and south westerly wind.

Looks like this is the weather station enclosure (click for Google Maps link)

Quite near to some parked camper vans or something similar?

Its certainly strange that the Met haven't yet posted anything on Twitter. The plot thickens.

I don't think it's the official site, most likely a vp2 or similar setup with non compliant radiation screen.

Met Office have just done an update...

Today's provisional top temperature looks set to be 34.7 C, recorded at Tibenham Airfield in Norfolk

36.9 now. I really do wonder whether that's an official station, especially as the Met Office tweets have dried up...

If Tibenham is not a proper station, one has to wonder if something similar is going on there. It's also possible that Tibenham has two sites - a correct one and the website one linked to Weatherdisplay.

They have updated yesterdays (26th) highest to 35.3 °C at Faversham

Retron
27 July 2018 16:12:47

Yup, Brogdale strikes again! Interesting that Brogdale now reports daily, IIRC it was monthly in 2003?

TBH, a bit of me hopes Brogdale keeps that 35.3 as this year's high. It's also got the year's low so far, -14.2C!

https://www.metoffice.gov.uk/climate/uk/interesting/february2018-snow

(And yes, that -14C is legit. I had -14C here, too, and on my 13-mile drive to work the car thermometer didn't get above -12C the whole way. Indeed, it went as low as -17C over the spine of the Isle, I wish there was an official weather station up there.)

I think NWS is at the airport?? If so that is 5 miles north of Norwich and so 20 miles from Tibenham.

As an aside, has the same place ever recorded both the UK annual high and low before? That'd certainly be one for the record books!
