Hate extreme heat and humidity. My ideal summer temperature is 22/23c

Tibenham is on the way back down now from a peak of 35.3. I think the Met needed more stations in rural Suffolk and Essex today 🙂

Well left home earlier the car thermometer was at 35C around noon, travelled east towards Beccles and all of a sudden you felt the heat removed. Temp on the car dropped to 28C by the time I got to the east coast near Southwold. Beautiful here, much less oppressive. But can't help but wonder what the Vantage Vue is displaying.

indeed. The coverage is really poor. Slightly off topic, but do I assume correctly that the weather station in Halstead, Essex closed many years ago? It’s the holder of a couple of date records.

I also see that the highest recorded temperature in Essex was 37.1C on 10/8/03 at Gestingthorpe. Is that still a working station?

There are a few manual stations which will only report at the end of the day (or week/month?) so records could be updated later (I think that happened with the Aug 2003 max, which was initially Gravesend before Brogdale reported.)

LOL, went to Southwold yesterday evening to escape the heat. Car thermometer temperature from Bythburgh to Southwold was literally dropping approx every quarter of a mile!!

This morning was really nice with dry air and 30C then it got too steamy and humid when the haze arrived.

Now cloudy and getting darker with temps dropping to 31.4C from 33.7C 10mins ago.

I concur with the reports of drier air this morning, but now very humid. Its become dark and menacing in London now. Though temperatures holding in the near 30s. 

Now 30.8C and a slight small precips just passed Ewell from the radar as I live just west side and nothing here.  There another batch over the channel that might hit us as it heading direct toward here.

Tibenham is quietly creeping back up again - just reached 35.1C.... and back down again to 34.7C five mins later. 

So quite widely 34C and a few places getting above 35C.

Pretty much as the models suggested. Was very sceptical of the claim the all time record could go. 38.5C seemed extremely improbable. Even the more conservative 37C in London and Norwhich looks to be a big overestimate.

And now back up to 35.6C!!  ??   

36.2C now, a late surge for the record?

36.9 now. I really do wonder whether that's an official station, especially as the Met Office tweets have dried up...

I'll be driving past there in in about 25 mins time. WIll see if my car thermometer rises by 2 to 3 degrees!! 

Well they were  matching exactly, and it would be pretty weird for a little rural airfield to have two separate fully functioning weather stations, wouldn't it? The Met Office network isn't all run by the Met Office AFAIK - they do inspect the sites but many of them are privately run.

If official then that is a new July record.

Indeed, Brogdale for example is privately run. I'm just suspicious given that the Met Office haven't mentioned anything, given that they were giving regular updates earlier.

Now 37.7C. Quick, the airfield's on fire! 

I think a jet engine must have just passed by the station, no other ones are that hot near by.
