For which location?

We're still a long way down the rankings for the UK as a whole. AFAIK there are 10 days on which the temperature has reached 36C since 1900:

38.5C (10 Aug 2003)

37.1C (3 Aug 1990)

36.9C (9 Aug 2003)

36.7C (1 July 2015 and 9 Aug 1911)

36.6C (2 Aug 1990) (disputed)

36.5C (19 July 2006)

36.4C (6 Aug 2003)

36.1C (19 Aug 1932)

36.0C (22 July 1911)

(That's taken from http://www.torro.org.uk/hightempsyear.php which only gives the highest temps for each day, so any lower temps on the same date in another year won't show up, but I don't think it misses any other 36C+ days as they are so rare.

Would an official Met Office station be connected to a PC running WeatherDisplay?

I was wondering that, but it's clearly the right location and the values seem to match those quoted by the Met Office.

It's just reached 34.5C which is a new date record, if that's official.
Edit: just up to 34.8C.

Talk of 37C looks very optimistic though, now.

Tibenham now at 34.8. Could still eclipse the 35.1c hottest day of the year, set yesterday??

37c probably been off the cards for a couple of hours now. Highest now will probably be 36 tops if the high uppers can hold on for the next couple of hours.

Tibenham now at 35.1c     is that hottest day of the year equalled?

If that is indeed the official station. I'm sure the Met Office will tweet once yesterday's temp has been passed.

Yes equals Wisley yesterday. 

Met Office satellite still shows mainly clear skies over EA. May be more to come.

First time since 2003 that 35C has been passed on more than one occasion. Before that you have to go back to 1990 and 1976.

If you look further down the image, the high is 35.2.

IF it's the official station then we now have a new hottest day of the year!

Earlier tweets tied in with the maximum temperature shown for the day, thus I assumed that site was showing the official data. But yes, lets see what the Met Office say!!

Wattisham 33.4C at 1pm

They don't have an official station in Leeds, one of the biggest cities in the UK. Their station coverage is appalling.

Things are not over yet. While my station won't be accurate in absolute terms, it's just gone up 0.5C in the last ten minutes to 36.2C, so rises elsewhere are still on the cards

Whatever the 'real' temperature is, that's the highest I've recorded here.

Temperature falling steadily. Now more than 2c off its high at 12.15.

It's a basic 1080 weatherstation albeit dismantled and extended to relocate sensors to more suitable areas. It's linked to a meteohub. The location suffers from illumination problems in the evening (my homemade screen rotted and fell apart) so it's currently in shade 2m above grass while I decide if I can be bothered to build a proper screen.

The temperature sensor is calibrated against a Namas-calibrated thermometer that I can borrow so I know it is accurate; just that the position is hopelessly compromised. It normally isn't that far out from Wattisham.

[edit] Looks over for me here now - serious cloud now building. To the west, one huge pillar in particular is rising so fast and high that its movement is clearly visible
