Today is now the 3rd hottest day since 1900, only 2003 and 1932 to go (need another 1.3C to get them both)

Exciting

38.5C (10 Aug 2003)

37.1C (3 Aug 1990)

36.9C (9 Aug 2003)

36.7C (1 July 2015 and 9 Aug 1911)

36.6C (2 Aug 1990) (disputed)

36.5C (19 July 2006)

36.4C (6 Aug 2003)

36.1C (19 Aug 1932)

36.0C (22 July 1911)

(That's taken from http://www.torro.org.uk/hightempsyear.php which only gives the highest temps for each day, so any lower temps on the same date in another year won't show up, but I don't think it misses any other 36C+ days as they are so rare.

27.5C top temp so far but currently a degree cooler. There's been loads of cloud about down here on the south coast today.

It's just reached 34.5C which is a new date record, if that's official.
Edit: just up to 34.8C.

Talk of 37C looks very optimistic though, now.

I find it extraordinary thst the Met Office don’t have official stations in places like Norwich!

Watch out for Gravesend, it's been rising fast over 33c now and often reports hotter later in day. The Southerly wind picking up is helping the foehn effect it seems.

Been sitting outside enjoying the Epsom heat for the last time as I will be moving to Kent next Friday, it got humid and hazy so that sent the temps soared to 35.6C for few minutes then slowly dropping back to 33.7 as the skies became a bit clearer again. So hat off to the Met Office for putting higher temps which i am 1.4C short from 37C in the SE than the BBC that put only 29C.

Just for stations close to Norwich not UK-wide.  The rest of my post alluded to this but I should have made it crystal clear agreed.

Norwich has only exceeded 35C twice before today....

Things are not over yet. While my station won't be accurate in absolute terms, it's just gone up 0.5C in the last ten minutes to 36.2C, so rises elsewhere are still on the cards

Whatever the 'real' temperature is, that's the highest I've recorded here.

The temperature sensor is calibrated against a Namas-calibrated thermometer that I can borrow so I know it is accurate; just that the position is hopelessly compromised. It normally isn't that far out from Wattisham.

[edit] Looks over for me here now - serious cloud now building. To the west, one huge pillar in particular is rising so fast and high that its movement is clearly visible

Thought you like the heat Justin since I assumed living in Kent always get hotter days and colder days than other areas in the south. Very humid and around 33.7 to 34C with sunny spells but wind picking up now.
