A very close and muggy night, so the earlier thunderstorm which we had, hasn't cleared the air by all that much.

Considering the amount of thunder and lightning which we had though, the total amount of rain which we got from that was actually very small. Most of the rain from that storm actually fell to the east and south of the city and obviously missed Edinburgh Gogarbank altogether, as there was nothing at all in the way of rainfall recorded there.

Even at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh,a total of  just 1.8 mm of rain was recorded for yesterday thanks to that thunderstorm, although this was enough to mean that yesterday will now go down as an official rain day at that particular station.

Meanwhile, the temperature at midnight was 17.5ºC at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 17ºC at Edinburgh Airport and 17.0ºC at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh, so it is clearly quite a lot warmer than what it has been over the last couple of nights.

So much for the idea that a thunderstorm clears the air. An absolutely foul and disgusting morning with thick murk. Temperature has varied between 16.8 and 17.4 since midnight.

This horrendous scenario of rain clearing to fog takes me right back to the nightmare of June 2007. VILE.

The forecasted sunny start/day is a little inaccurate as it's almost cloudy now, still warm though, temp at 21.5C.

For the fourth day in a row, we have a bright and sunny start to yet another day with a total of 1.6 hours of sunshine having been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 8am this morning.

Having said that though, a total of 0.2 mm of rain has been recorded for today so far at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh as at 8am this morning. However, that is probably just due to condensation and so far, Edinburgh Gogarbank has been completely dry until now.

Last night's overnight minimum temperature was 14.3ºC at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 13ºC at Edinburgh Airport and 14.5ºC at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

However, the temperature has shot up once again during this morning and even as early as 8am this morning, the temperature was already up at 20.0ºC at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 20ºC at Edinburgh Airport and 19.5ºC at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

This means that it is even hotter just now than what it was at the same time during yesterday. When we consider how hot it ended up getting yesterday, it surely has to be only a matter of time before a temperature of 30ºC or above is recorded at one of my three local stations. Sadly though, that temperature potential is not expected to be realised today, as the forecast for much later on isn't so good.

Some of the best (loudest) thunder we have had I many a year and we sit a sweet spot for it anyway. Absolutely fantastic with such heavy rain too.
