It looks a little better than average in some northern parts and almost certainly warmer than average for many. However, as this week will probably show, a number of weather fronts moving in from the NW and fizzling as they head southeast will give a decidedly different feel between NWern and SEern parts. The former will be cooler and more unsettled with a transition to hotter and drier th further south and east you go.

Wow. The briefest of brief cool downs on Saturday and Sunday, but still warm, then temperatures really take off again.
Long term trend is very clear. It's looking HOT HOT HOT. And very little in the way of rain too.

We are living through the best summer in our lifetimes folks.

It was 27C in Aboyne yesterday. And only 19C on the North West coast of England.

The current set up favours the shire because the more westerly setup allows the foehn wind and that’s always what brings the best weather to NE Scotland. Not so good for western Scotland though.

As some of you salivate over potential plumes, the charts for this week show very average conditions for the next week here. Cloud, showery rain and 20-22 C for Ireland and Scotland. As usual it's an English hot spell!

Wouldn't mind some sun either, the cloud meant yesterday the temperature range in edinburgh was 3.2c over 24 hours - 19.7 to 16.5

It's 7 or 8 out of 10 overall, rather than the 10/10 conditions through most of May & June, where the high was better positioned to drive any depressions to the south, whilst also bringing an easterly flow.

The E'ly flow was also, of course, of drier air, so less humid conditions.

Cloud will be the big issue for most of us - as it was for most of last week. Quite a lot of cloud around now, though it is 24.3C which is just 2 degrees below the maximum forecast temperature for today (how much more it increases, who knows - depends on how many sunny spells there are).

I think this is just a return to the more typical style of decent summery weather with the split. After some atrocious summers up here, the coming week would probably be one of the better weeks of summer in other years. It looks like we have some decent summery days coming up. I just hope the cloud holds off a bit as the temperatures of 22C-26C are fine for me with good amounts of sun and no rain. Maybe we will tap into the heat a bit more on some days too.

GFS 6z keeps it hot in central and eastern England this weekend and then ramps temps further next week. Serious problems if this verifies.

It's worth noting, though, that even EPS starts to ramp up the heat into the start of August, albeit not to silly levels.

Is that the same ensemble mean that shows 18°C as a max in Aberdeen today? I realise it is a coastal location but the models (across the board) really cannot predict the temperatures here with any accuracy. Time after time the models undercook our maxima and this is reflected in any automatically generated forecast.

Fair enough though, for those who like heat, this morning's GFS run is one to remember. We'd all be frizzled and frazzled by that one!

I do think it's time for the authorities to start contingency planning, and getting some warnings out. Even if there's only a 30% chance of several consecutive days of 35C+ by day and 20C+ by night in the South, that's about the same risk as a no deal Brexit and they're banging on about that all the time.

Indeed those charts don’t enthuse me much as we endure yet another day under the cloud and also for the last hour, the rain. 19c and no sun since last weds. Looks like cloud will dominate again this week.

Sorry, lashing out a bit on the back of these ‘best summer’ posts and ‘heatwave’ posts! 😕😢
